Merge Discussion - with Spindle Galaxy in Draco

[edit]

The result of the debate was Do not merge. 132.205.44.134 04:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do not merge -- The identity of M102 is one of those enduring mysteries in astronomical history. The current article is very bad -- too short, and largely missing the point -- but it's an interesting historical topic apart from the Draco Spindle Galaxy. -- Paul Drye 18:40, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do not merge The professional astronomical resources NED (http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/) and SIMBAD (http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/Simbad) do not yet agree that NGC 5866 (or the Spindle Galaxy) is the same object as M 102. NED points to NGC 5457 (M101) as M102, wheras SIMBAD points to NGC 5866 as M102. What would be more appropriate in the M102 article is a discussion of the disambiguity of the object's identity (as suggested by Paul Drye) with links pointing to any potential candidate objects. (I would also like to see NGC 5866 under the header NGC 5866, but that is a different issue.) GeorgeJBendo 13:06, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Fixed page

[edit]

This page was "improved" by user:Hurricane Devon awhile ago to make it seem as though M102 was the Spindle Galaxy. I've reverted the page to it's Pre-HurricaneDevon contents. The disambiguation status is now restored. I reupped the merge tag as there's an ongoing debate. 132.205.45.148 02:01, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
