[edit]

I have no idea what this book is (it may be related to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meyers_Konversations-Lexikon), but English Wikipedia seems to be using some of its content in a number of places (mostly images http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search/Meyers_Blitz-Lexikon), so I think it merits some description in English (origin/authors, associations, etc.) Wikimedia Commons seems to have hundreds of pages of its content scanned with reasonable quality, so it will probably continue to be used.

I wrote a little one-sentence stub to get started, but it should probably be deleted and restarted entirely by someone who knows the facts better than I do.

The Google Translate looks like a pretty good start, but generates some nonsense: http://translate.google.com/translate?&u=http%3A%2F%2Fde.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FMeyers_Blitz-Lexikon&sl=de&tl=en

[edit]
An image used in this article, File:LA2-Blitz-0040.jpg, has been nominated for deletion at Wikimedia Commons in the following category: Deletion requests January 2012
What should I do?

Don't panic; a discussion will now take place over on Commons about whether to remove the file. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion, although please review Commons guidelines before doing so.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.

removed "public domain" claim

[edit]

After seeing the bot notice above, I tried to follow the image link, and it no longer seems to be in wikimedia commons. (?) But a wayback archive image here: https://web.archive.org/web/20120203080335/http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:LA2-Blitz-0040.jpg seems to be saying it is/was not actually in the public domain. I'm not very clear on what the status is or why its content was being used around WP previously but to avoid any contradictions I removed the statement about 'public domain' from the article unless/until someone can clarify that further.
