I think this is not entirely correct: the electrical current will heat the wire above a certain temperature at which the wire will deform. If one returns to the original temperature, the wire can go to its original shape (depends on the amount of alloying elements). Flexinol is nothing more than a shape memory alloy. Working principle is the same. It is only the commercial name
