I doubt that the "figurehead", as it used to be called, was ever a real figurehead. For a long time there was an identical piece of wooden statuary lying on one of the terraces above the Plas. I remember seeing it lying there in 1962.
The last quarry was closed in 1949. If my memory serves the last boat sailed from the jetty on a blowey day in April 1949, although there must be records to confirm this.
