Townsville, 02 September 2008 Starting from the notion that the Myrmecological News Wikipedia site is orphaned, we yesterday referred to Myrmecological News in appropriate other Wikipedia sites. These were Ants, Myrmecology, Entomology, Cognition, Eusociality, Taxonomy. We are, of course, ready to explain in full detail why all of these references were appropriate. However, someone calling her/himself non-troppo removed the references making comments such as that our adding of references constitutes "vandalism", "advertisement" etc and that this would be against Wikipedia rules.
Sorry, but this simply shows a severe weakness of the Wikipedia concept. non-troppo probably is not into ants, myrmecology, entomology, cognition, eusociality, hymenopterans, taxonomy her/himself and that's fine, but then she/he should not undo contributions made by others.
Should non-troppo read this, we formally ask to put our references to Myrmecological News again where we had put them.
Should, on the other hand, non-troppo be powerful enough to be able continuing with keeping those references out, fine - our happiness does not depend on the progress of Wikipedia - just this, for that case: be so kind and do remove then the notion "orphaned" from the top of "Myrmecological News", because then obviously there is no real desire from the side of Wikipedia editors to iron that out ... and also do remove the notion that the article needs sources ... we have yesterday added a major ant source.
Should anyone want to read explanations in detail, please get in touch through birgit.florian@gmail.com - we will also be happy to put any explanations into any wikipedia site, but it is quite frustrating to see that anyone can simply remove others' work , so we would rather not start with putting too much effort into online-texts anymore. b&f
