I know I've come across copies of this music dating from 1900, although I can't provide citations. Right now, I'm looking at "The Burglar Rag", words "by Brady and Mahoney" (probably Jack Mahoney), music by Harry Ferguson, copyright 1912 by F.B. Haviland. This is 2 years prior to the publication listed in the article. The vamp of this song contains the mysterioso pizzicato.
