Disambiguation

Create NXP (disambiguation) to cover other uses of NXP. DFH 13:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Done. DFH 13:24, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Later cleanups and discussions lead to making NXP Semiconductors the main page again, containing a hatline to the only other use of "NXP" (airfield in California).--Wosch21149 (talk) 15:56, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Competitors

The correct thing to do for any competitor company is to create an Wikipedia article about that company (providing one doesn't already exist), and then categorise it using Category:Semiconductor companies. A competitors section for each company article would be superfluous. DFH 18:15, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Because the page has been moved, there are links to NXP in a lot of other semiconductor related articles that now need to be changed to NXP Semiconductors, because NXP now redirects to NXP (disambiguation). See Special:Whatlinkshere/NXP. DFH 21:10, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

I observed that this task is substantially completed. See Special:Whatlinkshere/NXP Semiconductors. DFH 15:55, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Nxplogo.png

Image:Nxplogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

NXP JV

NXP hasn't sold anything a joint venture is something different. I would suggest to modify what is said, is true that ST holds the 80% of the JV but NXP gets around 1,550 milion of USD for this reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 57.67.164.37 (talk) 10:54, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Picture of former site in Hamburg-Hausbruch (Germany)

There have been some reverts of the removal of a picture of a former site of NXP in Hamburg-Hausbruch. Now the picture has the sticker "citation needed". Here's a link to a picture from march 2011 of the demolishing of the buildings in the biggest local newspaper: Gespenstische Szenerie (German). Is this citation enough?

An editor was complaining about KKR being responsible for destroying a former natural reserve. One may like or dislike investors, but this area was made available by the government of Hamburg to Philips in the 1980s. KKR took over former Philips Semiconductors only in 2006.--Wosch21149 (talk) 17:50, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Need to change wording to avoid this article becoming dated

In the first paragraph we have "more than 50 years ago". This cannot stay true over time. It should be changed to "before <some date>". I don't know what the date here should be, so I have not made the change. S M Woodall (talk) 08:12, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

"more than 50 years ago" was referring to the start of semiconductor production at former vacuum tube plants. So there was no real "founding" of NXP/Philips Semiconductors as a semiconductor maker. Philips started producing vacuum tubes early in the 20th century. I avoided a foundation date by rather mentioning this fact now. --Wosch21149 (talk) 22:15, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Space Rubbish gave an even more precise date (1953) for the foundation of "Philips Semiconductors" based on the article [1] (link here corrected/updated) - however, this does not even mention any foundation date. That's why I reverted this change. --Wosch21149 (talk) 21:18, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
