Pl note that original metre gauge line was operated and owned by GIP Railway. When Bengal Nagpur Railway, private company was formed it was given permission to run and build line up to Nagpur to Howrah on broad gauge basis. So the metre gauge line of GIP which was run under name & style of Nagpur Chhatisgarh Railway was given to BNR. BNR came in to existence in 1887 and started operating from 1888 and was not taken over by British Government of India till 1944.!! Jethwarp (talk) 14:42, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
