Demonizing article with ethnic slur title
[edit]Change the derogatory (ethnic slur) title. This article has a lot of issues, beginning with the title itself. The term Neftenya (or locally called Neftegna) is considered a demonizing narrative and hate speech against the Amhara, and is used by rival ethnic political groups in Ethiopia. Testimonies of massacre survivors disclosed the use of Neftenya by various kill actors before mass murdering Amhara. This article requires rewriting contents with neutral tone, WP:NPOV. Its very existence is questionable by itself. Petra0922 (talk) 20:45, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Petra0922: What alternate name is the group referred to as that could be substituted, then? If the problem is that the name has become a slur, then to change the article, we'd need to identify an alternative term. —C.Fred (talk) 21:24, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- @C.Fred, good point. The article has elements of history although the lead section seems to be crafted in a way to define certain ethnic groups as imperialist, expansionist, colonizers, and the like- which caused severe ethnic violence in the country. To your point though, assuming some contents could be rewritten or improved in a neutral fashion, my proposed titles would be, and along this line:
- Ethnic controversies and dynamics in Ethiopia
- Past ruling conflicts in Ethiopia
- Arms possession, patriotism & ethnic grievances in Ethiopia
