Maybe we should add that his Great-Aunt Enid was mentioned in HP1 (Ch. 7, p. 125) Epl18 23:29, 24 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Go for it. --Ihope127 17:08, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

severus snape

Neville's lack of self confidence due to his weakness

[edit]

I think Rowling has made it clear that the opposite is true; his weakness as a wizard was due to his lack of self-confidence.Serendipodous 10:57, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's almost certainly true his lack of confidence is his greatest weakness. However, he was sorted into Gryffindor (after a long consultation with the sorting hat) and has proven his bravery in battle. Harry taught him well in Dumbledore's Army (Harry complimented him on disarming him, even though it wasn't under any kind of battle condition simply to boost his confidence). He also probably gained a lot of confidence when he stood up to Bellatrix Lestrange. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.210.150.61 (talkcontribs) 08:48, 21 June 2007

Photo

[edit]

Can we source another photo of Neville, the one in the article is terrible (all pixilated).

User 200.119.54.176 expanded the originally posted photo beyond its resolution capability - which produced the "pixilation" problem. Reverted to the original. However - a better picture would be an improvement. Searching... T-dot 16:34, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

um, i think sombody must have changed it back or somthing, because it is still very pixely.

It must have been changed back because it is still very pixeled and blurry.

Merge

[edit]

See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Trevor (Harry Potter) (second nomination). Petros471 18:28, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trevor should be merged into the article about animals in HP, not into the Neville Longbottom article. Exploding Boy 19:32, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean Pets in the Harry Potter series? That's already been merged into List of characters in the Harry Potter books (which, as the title indicates, is merely a list). —David Levy 19:57, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Death

[edit]

In June of 2006 Rowling anounced that two Harry Potter characters will die in the final book. It does not seem that Rowling will have one of three main characters die, therefore Nevil's death seems a bit likely.

  • Pure Speculation. There are more than 100 fairly important characters in the books and more than thirty, who can be called major. There's nothing that hints specifically to Neville's deaths (the fact that my favourite characters always die doesn't count ;-) ), therefore there's no reason to add this to an enciclopedia. If he does die, we can add it once the book is released. Neville Longbottom 19:53, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Neville Ends up dead after avenging his parents

We can all now safely say that Neville does not die, so this issue is resolved :) Loopywelshemz 20:44, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to point out that Rowling said 2 people she wasn't planning on killing died, not that 2 and only 2 people would die. Mr. College (talk) 14:09, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flitwick a bully???

[edit]

You state that Prf. Flitwick makes Trevor the frog fly around the room in an effort to "bully" Neville. Is that a fair comment on Flitwick? He's supposed to be one of the good guys, I thought.

You don't appear to have read the text properly. It states that Neville appears to take the toad to lessons. And gives examples - Flitwick making it zoom aroun the classroom, and Snape bullying Neville by threatening the toad. The bullying reference is clearly only in reference to Snape - it isn't even a case of misleading through poor sentence structure. Michaelsanders 18:52, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't misleading or poor sentence structure, but I still attempted to clarify it. No reason to make an encyclopedia entry harder to read than it has to be. 71.63.119.49 00:06, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neville's eye

[edit]

An user called "michalesanders" deleted "eye color" from neville's article without any reason, he only wrote "source".

Exactly - source? Where is it said that he has green eyes? Michaelsanders 20:22, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thestral

[edit]

shouldn't it be added tat he's witnessed death and thus being able to see thestrals

Whose death did he see before they met the Thestrals in book 5? His parents weren't murdered. They were driven insane.--WPaulB 16:54, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
His grandad according to the chapter with Thestrals
That's what I get for not being able to check book 5 before I post :) --WPaulB 14:10, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Organazing the article

[edit]

If it has a special section to talk about his role on books 5 and 6, it SHOULD have one for every year, even if there isn't much information about it. This article needs to be re-divided. User:Diana Prallon

Unless it was significant to overall plot, I see no point in this. The idea is to be concise. Neville's contributions in the early books are fine. He became a major secondary character in book 5, not before.--WPaulB 14:10, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trevor

[edit]

I edited the bit about Trevor not appearing in Deathly Hallows because I don't remember reading anything about him. Was he ever mentioned in the book? (I don't want to make a huge deal, but if I was wrong in my edit, please let me know). CarlosTheDwarf 03:18, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Hogwarts

[edit]

The article refers to the Battle of Hogwarts in the section on Book 6. However, the Battle of Hogwarts actually took place near the end of Book 7. Does that part of the text need to be moved? Unless it's referring to the battle on top of the astronomy tower near the end of Book 6 but that wasn't referred to in the books as the battle of Hogwarts. --Jeff

There were two Battles of Hogwarts - the first in Half-Blood Prince, and the second, final battle in Deathly Hallows. Neville fought bravely in both; he didn't do so well in the first one, but in the second he played to his real strengths, first in herbology and the second in his reluctant, though ultimately effective role as the leader of Dumbledore's Army in his 7th year. Dumbledore's statement that people who have leadership thrust on them often wear it well. Harry did; so did Neville. Neville, like Harry, made an unarmed stand against Voldemort, totally denouncing the concept of blood-purity, and willingness to die for what was right. I have no doubt Neville as Professor Longbottom is a great teacher, the kind that Lupin was... boost a student's confidence if they need it, be willing to listen to fears without upsetting them, and pass his love of herbology to those he teaches.
There was only one Battle of Hogwarts. The "Battle of Hogwarts" seen in HBP is a fan term, never used or endorsed by Rowling. Faithlessthewonderboy 11:51, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Even so, the Wikipedia article calls the battle in HBP the first Battle of Hogwarts - take a look. Battles in Harry Potter#First Battle of Hogwarts Can't deny that - Weebiloobil 11:18, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't dream of denying it. It's true, Wikipedia, the encyclopedia that anyone can edit, does occasionally get it wrong. The fact remains that the battle in HBP was never called the Battle of Hogwarts and is therefore fancruft. People often edit articles to reflect their (incorrect) opinions, and the best we can do is change it back afterwards. Faithlessthewonderboy 07:26, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neville the house elf

[edit]

I think there should be a reference to Neville taking Dobbys place in the movies of Goblet of Fire and Order of the Pheonix in bringing the Gillyweed and finding the Room of Requirement. --Gaiash 18:26, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Misc. info about important acts being carried out by characters other than those in the book should be, if at all, probably mentioned in the concerned movies' Wikipedia entries (under Trivia). --FallenAngelII 02:17, 27 July 2007 (GMT+1)

Yes, and let's take out every mention of what happens in the movie versions. For example, in the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Neville told Harry about his parents, and mentioned only Bellatrix Lestrange. So what?! What happens in the movie versions is completely immaterial! It's distracting and annoying. I'm going to take it out within the next few days, unless someone can make a compelling argument for keeping it.

Patronous

[edit]

I took out where it said Neville's patronous is a dove. There was no citation and there has been no mention of what his patronous is since the release of Deathly Hallows. Unless citation is given I suggest keeping it permanently off.

The Translation of Neville's Name

[edit]

What happened to the listing? I don't know Wiki well enough to put it back into the 'nice' version and reverting won't work as there are too many changes since I last noticed it was good.--WPaulB 01:07, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That translation section was somehow useless. Most of the pages in Wiki have a section for "Languages" in the left column. --Lord Opeth (talk) 17:37, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neville vs. Body-bind

[edit]

Really, it isn’t worth having an edit war, and the book does mention that Harry’s sacrifice had a profound effect in terms of weakening Voldemort’s spells. I have rephrased the disputed passage, hopefully everyone will find this version more satisfactory. WikidSmaht (talk) 05:46, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
