Roots of the Oliver lastname in Britain are a corruption of 'Holiver" (holy fare - pilgrimage, pilgrim) Cf. "DenVER" (-ver = fare)
[edit]Words and names begining with "h" are known to sometimes get dropped espicially so before an "o".
