[edit]Talk:Beryllium I think opalite is not synthetic. I think it is another name for tiffany stone, an opalized fluorite found in beryllium ore. I found these sites that seem to say it is not synthetic. http://www.earthlyicons.com/opalite.html http://www.bernardine.com/gemstones/opalite.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.220.138.225 (talk • contribs) 00:48, 22 August 2010
- Those two websites are commercial gem/jewelry sales pitches and don't qualify as reliable sources. What you need are non-commercial references. Vsmith (talk) 01:22, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Opalite has been used to describe natural stones before there were widespread synthetics. It has been used to describe material that has simalar characteristics to opal without calling it opal directly. Much the same way the term chalcedony might be used (or misused!) I would not be against this being merged into the opal article, unless there is a complete article about manufactured opals. Nodekeeper (talk) 03:55, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
There is definitely an artificial form of glass called 'Opalite' - unfortunately, it does appear that there is also a genuine stone which does appear to be Tiffany Stone. The photos on the mindat reference are this genuine mineral. I have added a photo of the glass itself to the article. John-Burrows (talk) 18:06, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
