This article is nowhere near ready for GA. Many parts of the article are wholly uncited. Several references are too vague to follow; others are poorly formatted. The history is divided between the History section and the lead: the two accounts are different. The history seems to be based on France for some reason, and is very poorly sourced. The "Modern culinary use" continues with bits of history back to the Middle Ages, 18th century, and Thomas Jefferson, again badly sourced. The tour of the world via pea soup and pease pottage is a good idea but needs much better sourcing. The list of Varieties is mostly unsourced, and contains unexplained acronyms; some entries have details of growth habit, others of prizes, others neither. The Pests and diseases gives some detail on one weevil, but otherwise is confined to one vague "a variety of diseases ... insects, viruses, bacteria and fungi" (well, that ought to cover most things) in one short sentence. The "In science" is almost all about Mendel, surely rather old hat by now, mostly apparently from a single source; there's one sentence about the effect on an enzyme. Nitrogen-fixing is rather better covered but needs more refs. The Etymology is mostly ok but has an uncited paragraph (and it should be at the top of the article). The article will require substantial rewriting and sourcing to get to a standard worth submitting at GAN. Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:23, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
