Redirecting

[edit]

This page keeps getting hijacked. Please stop redirecting Pele to your favorite soccer players. There's several popular peles and they all need to be listed. Lythic (talk)Lythic

The footballer is primary usage. Other Peles are listed at Pele (disambiguation).Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 23:48, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you ask me, Pele the goddess of Hawaiian mythology is the primary usage. Personally, the redirect to the disambiguation page seems like the right path. I don't give a flying hoot about the soccer player. When I type in Pele without an accent, I expect to be redirected to the goddess, not the soccer player. However, since most people don't know how to accent mark their letters, the disambiguation seems logical. 71.38.145.247 (talk) 12:10, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This page should go to a disambiguation. Both the goddess and the football player are primary meanings, but there are many other meanings as well. Jonathunder (talk) 15:17, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current path for a random reader looking for the goddess through the search box: Pele -> Pelé -> Pele (disambiguation) -> Pele (deity). The counts for November for those pages: 18475 -> (98721) -> 1442 -> (7418). So 18K people hit the redirect to the footballer, and only 1.4K of them then go to the disambiguation page. The footballer appears to be the primary topic for "pele". The hatnote on Pelé can be extended, though, to make the path to the goddess Pele -> Pelé -> Pele (deity), if that will help. -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:57, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Pele without diacritics is the goddess, primarily; with diacritics is a football player. It is best to leave this disambiguated. Jonathunder (talk) 14:34, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The primary topic on Wikipedia for "pele" (without the diacritics) appears to be the footballer. Of the 18475 readers who hit the redirect Pele in November and landed on the footballer, no more than 1442 of them (7.8%) decided they were on the wrong page and clicked through to the disambiguation page to find a different topic. The other 92.2% apparently reached the topic they were looking for. -- JHunterJ (talk) 20:22, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
