Removed ref to airplane crash. Don't see how it is relevant. Or, if it is (maybe to figure out if one wants to fly there) it seems to me all airplane crashes should be added to the airports near their occurance.

I agree, also could someone familiar with PIT include the annual amount of passengers that use this airport?

jetBlue has announced service starting in June, but they have already been placed in Concourse C on the KPIT page? Is there any confirmation of this? D seems to be a more likely choice unless they are taking Indpendence Air's old gate.

Logos not fair use?

I personally have no knowledge about "fair use" of these logos, but I personally am for them. Perhaps when they come back, maybe even using the express airlines in smaller format?

Innovations bad news?

Seems like someone was more concerned about "equal time" in the innovations section then the simple facts.

First I have used the Airport Wi-Fi maybe hundreds of time and NEVER been hacked and never heard of anyone being hacked, Pittsburgh has a "state of the art" Wi-Fi network according to their webpage and the bevy brain talent that Carnegie-Mellon, Pittsburgh SuperComputing Center, U.S. Computer Emergency Response Team HQ, Ariba, Seagate, Google, Apple and Rand Corp. in the city of Pittsburgh provide would seem to indicate that having the Wi-Fi network be among the most secure in the world only takes a few professors or engineers a half a tank of gas and a couple of WDVE songs to maintain.

Also I find it curious that a blanket statement about the increased risks with any Wi-Fi network would find itself in a statement not about the technical aspects of Wi-Fi vis-a-vi wired but in a statement highlighting the fact that one airport was first to build a free system open to all of a certain technology. Shouldn't the blanket statements about non-specific risk factors of Wi-Fi be saved for the page discussing Wi-Fi and not the Pittsburgh Airport, unless of course someone had a citation on hacking taking place at PIT which as a Post-Gazette, Pgh Business Times and Pittsburghlive junkie I'd be very impressed to read about finally (cause I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have ever skipped over that headline).Hholt01 06:06, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Also the statement about the food not being street priced, I do think a few items could use a real-world check on food however overall I don't see much difference between food prices at the airport, downtown Pittsburgh, Sewickley, Oakland, Monroeville, Northshore, Southside, Strip District and the like. Again I think you would need a citation to rebut a few hundred web resources that claim that the Airport is indeed street pricing. I am sure that if you compared PIT to the Eastend, Monessen or Aliquippa you would find it a bit pricey but I wouldn't think you would fly all the way to Pittsburgh to eat in Monessen, and please don't be there after sunset ok.Hholt01 06:06, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

    • I actually meant the ones under media relations, but if this is what you were referring to, I understand. Problem with pictures at the airport is that there's no good spot to get a full overview of the airport in its entirety, unless it was settled on just the Core of the Airside, or the front of the Landside Terminal.Mezzanoitaliano 05:51, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

            • Looking through some pics I have, I see I have one from the ticketing hall in Pittsburgh. Does anyone have an opinion on this one? If not liked, I was just there twice this weekend and might be able to get another shot next time. The airside terminal would be more difficult since it's beyond security.

Removing Neutrality Despute

I think we still need to work on this - some of the text reads partially. "Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is a world-class facility" - what does that mean, really? It's one of my favorite airports, but that reads as a peacock term. Through hub direct service not included

Someone should go through the other airports (Asian airports with service from Northwest Airlines offhand) and delete those as well. I tried one time and was told those were acceptable. mezzanoitaliano 9 November 2006

• There is no way to enter the gate portion of the E gates. There is a alternative security checkpoint in the lounge area of the terminal but everything else is blocked off. Sorting catagories

History Citations

Someone recently added citations needed to the history section. I disagree. There is a note at the bottom that all of the information can be found at the airport on displays set up throughout the concourses. Luketenley has confirmed this when he wrote up the section, and I can confirm it as well, having flown through and used Pittsburgh on all of my travels. There is no way to identify this online, as the information is only at the airport (and there is in fact, a picture of one such display in the section). Thoughts? NW036 02:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

All the info I wrote is not direct quotes from the display. I did this so there wouldn't be any problems with piracy and whatnot. I think I'm the "Someone" mentioned above. First let me assure you that I have no doubt whatsoever that the history as provided represents good faith (and no small amount of effort either, obviously). (Even beyond good faith, who really is going to fabricate information about the history of an airport?) Anyhow, let's be sure that an accurate reply is at hand if someone (and it won't be me) makes a claim that this represents "original research." IMHO the section is a great addition and having flown through Pittsburgh, accurate, as mentioned above though I was going to reorganize this page to better conform to other airport pages and gain a better hold on info overload (though fantastic info, the original order and cats don't do justice to the overflow that has grown around this article), as such I'm moving the history to its very own Wikipage with the view that visitors to the airport page here are looking more at gate info, innovations, runway layouts then a history lesson (this coming from one very nerdy history buff ;) ), I love the section but airport pages are more about operations then mega details about the 1940s and 1950s, the section is excellent but like the Steelers page and some cats on the Pittsburgh page I feel it deserves a special page unto itself, interested on other views. Having looked at other pages, their history is on the same page. I don't want to history page on its own seperate page. People coming to look for info will more then likely not click on a link but rather have it on the same page. I love the history, not just NINE count them NINE paragraphs of it on the airport page, I posted the reorg weeks ago so everyone has had a chance to make comments for a dozen days including putting the 1945 airport information below and away from the 2007 airport information, am interested in other views on this but 1945 does not trump 2007 in priority or length for a page on an airport (a living breathing organization), and this is coming from someone who can best Rick Sebak in local history info. Yeah it is alot of information but I have seen it before on other airport pages. If you take it out, it will be harder for people to get that information. It took me 3 tries to find the link. That's rediculous. It needs to be on the main page about the airport. Mlaroche and myself thought the info was very good and definately helped out the page. Agreed Matt, to the starter: please view the picture, the sign clearly states A5. This information was confirmed by my personal visit to PIT as well as from an employee of Pittsburgh International and a Southwest employee. Also, these three are only WN's official gates. During busier times, they even use US Airways' A7 and park overnight (RON) jets at A1, A3, A5, A7, and sometimes A9 (though this gate is still used by USX during the day). I Hate US Airways!!! Did they really stop nonstop flights to all these cites??

Here is the list I have, let me know if I missed any. I really hate US airways we built this wonderful terminal to their specifications in the early 1990's. And not even ten years later they cut flights. Do you realize that PIT is supposed to be the best Airport in amenities and service in the United states? Well that doesn't really help if there are no connecting passengers to enjoy those amenities, right. So why did they DE-Hub PIT. Pittsburgh international was built to handle 600 flights a day. now we only have 127 from US Airways, our airport is a lot nicer than Philly and Charlotte. How come Pittsburgh was the one that lost everything?

Ok, yeah I know about the whole merger ( and by the way AW bought US, they just kept the US Airways name). Some airports say under airlines and Destinations: US Airways operated by America West Airlines ( Phoenix, Las Vegas) , but in Pittsburgh Phoenix and LAS Vegas are under US Airways. • Not to my knowledge. US Airways combined the two and then cut one of the flights to Phoenix (A320) and cut one flight to Las Vegas, and recently downgraded two 757s to two A320s. NW036 00:29, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Pittsburgh-Montréal Flight?

Hi. I noticed that people keep removing/replacing Montréal as a destination. I can't find direct flights between Montréal and Pittsburgh on any carrier at any time. Why is it there? nycstudent578 04:09, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

• Expressjet dba Continental Express operated this flight until this week. It was routed PIT-EWR-YUL, but I see now that they have removed it from their schedules as of today. When I searched the flight last night, it was still available. NW036 04:49, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
• Actually, on searching the actual Continental website, I see that this flight still is in fact operated. The flight number is CO2052 and on the website is shown as one flight with a brief stopover in Newark. NW036 05:03, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The Montreal portion is only an extention of the Pittsburgh-Newark service -- it is not a nonstop service from Pittsburgh.     • But if you check other international airports, they often have continuing service if it is international, on the same plane, and with the same flight number. Just because Montreal and Pittsburgh are not as large as Singapore or Los Angeles, well I see no reason as to why we should be inconsistent in the agreed upon policy of one-stop international flights being included. There is still pittsburgh-montreal with air canada, but the UsAir route is being cut, even though they may or may not codeshare.

Minor Delta Updates

I removed the Salt Lake City 'seasonal' tag from Delta's service destinations, as the latest schedule release indicates the MD-90 staying through the winter. The SkyWest CRJ-900 will continue to operate on Saturdays in place of the MD-90. Also, I removed Cincinnati mainline, as the new schedule also indicates (as of now) the 737-800 will not return in December as previously thought, leaving just the Comair and Chautauqua regional jets. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.223.171.39 (talk • contribs).

What year did Air Tran begin service to PIT?

• If I recall correctly AirTran began service in 2000. They did initially try to go against US Airways' strong hub in Pittsburgh at the time by flying to strong business destinations. If they chose to try again now, they might have more success, but other airlines such as Southwest and JetBlue would seem to have beaten them to it and would likely crush any new competition on those routes.     • I believe AirTran started MDW, LGA, and PHL from PIT sometime in 2001 and those services ended early in 2002, if I have my timeline correct here. I think the Cleveland (departure only) should be removed from USA 3000. I can't find the flights in the Airline's reservation system.

how can concourse E be an auxilary security checkpoint?

listen, after you go through the main security checkpoint you come to the subways that take you to the airside terminal, then you come to the escalators that take you up to the e concourse. I corrected the original name of the airport which was called Greater Piitsburgh Airport. It was renamed Greater Pittsburgh International Airport around 1974 or 1975, and the nickname even after the name change was Greater Pitt. "All service ends"

In regards to the statement that all service is ending for the Colgan Air service, and others, that's not completely true, yet. If you look at page five of this press release, some of the destinations to be cut are to be announced, not officially cut. AirTran flights to Florida

US Airways Gates

In concourse B, I sometimes see US Airways using B27 and B29, along with their 10 gates consisting of B26, B28, and B30-B37. I am going to change their gate assignments to include these. Air Tran and Southwest

I have two questions, why on the schedule on the official website of the airport soutwest has not used A1,A3,A5 and using A7 and A9? Second, Airtran is listed to using C52 and C54, but on the schedule, they do not use C52, i changed it, is it right. Tajtheman (talk) 00:35, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Southwest is renovating the gate areas of A1 and A3, then soon A5, so they are using A7 and A9 while this is going on. Don't follow what the airport website says, it still says US Airways is using gates in the A concourse. Direct vs. non-stop cities for Southwest

There have been some recent edits regarding cities served by Southwest at PIT that I feel could benefit from discussion. SWA is fairly unique in that many of their flight numbers are "direct" in that you don't change planes, but not "non-stop" in that you might book at trip PIT-LAX, but then actually fly PIT-MDW-PHX-LAX (purely fictious example). I would propose we only list/note the cities served non-stop from PIT. Thoughts? Civilengtiger (talk) 18:17, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

I think this would be a better discussion for Wikipedia:WikiProject Airports to make sure it's consistent across the whole project. My gut feeling is to agree with you, Civilengtiger, but the WikiProject page makes it sound like we should be listing LAX in your example because Southwest doesn't have hubs. Yeah, it's in the project page, which says However, avoid listing direct flights that contain a stop at a domestic hub, as virtually all of these are simply flights from one "spoke city" to a hub, with the plane continuing from the hub to a second spoke city. Southwest doesn't officially have anything - hubs or focus cities. They don't officially make any separation between any of their stations. That said, MDW, PHX, LAS, OAK, et al. have as many daily flights as some legacy carrier hubs. The reality is that they're essentially hubs, whether WN wants to admit it or not. Continental Arrival A2

Thus the problem with listing gate usage by airlines. It's generally consistent, but not always. Perhaps there was a delayed flight at one of Continental's regular gates, so CO operations needed to use another gate for an arrival. A2 was open and available, so they used it. With Common Use Terminal Environment software, any airline's staff can handle an arrival from their carrier at any gate. Such minutia are really beyond encyclopedic listing. If you looked at the arrivals at the end of the night at Pittsburgh there were 3 Continental airplanes that were to be parked there over night. This has happened a few times in the past couple of weeks with other airlines as well not just Continental. In regards to Southwest, gates A1 and A3 are being remodeled, and they will be used after they are remodeled. Hub for Trans States and Republic?

I don't know that I would call PIT a "hub" for Republic -- they only fly to other US hubs/focus cities. As for Trans States, PIT is indeed the only city they operate US Express flights from.
