Historical detail
[edit]The article says this bridge was built in 1927. Need a ref for that. A newspaper article would be great, because it would likely comment on the cause/impact of building it rather than just structural details of the bridge itself at time of construction. It may also provide information about previous river crossings, including a previous "Point Street Bridge" mentioned in "City Advertisements: The City of Providence. Chapter 531. No. 278. An Ordinance Entitled Point Street Bridge". The Evening News. July 11, 1912. DMacks (talk) 22:31, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- There was a previous Point Street Bridge, but the only information I can find about it is this photo titled Point Street Bridge. Waz8 (talk) 04:32, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
- I agree, a better citation would be nice. It was my hope when I created the stub that others would bring more sources - and I expect someone eventually will. The 1927 date and builder comes from the plaques affixed to the bridge. Not sure how to cite that - I should probably just snap of photo of one of them. Also, it appears from the photo of the earlier bridge that it was also a swing bridge of similar design but this feels too speculative to state without better confirmation. juanitogan (talk) 15:16, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
- I've added a reference for the construction date and company. This source also states that the current bridge was the third swing bridge at the site. Therefore, both previous bridges -- including the one at the link destination -- are confirmed to have been of that type. Waz8 (talk) 03:23, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
