Reasons for tagging[edit]

For most mathematicians, a "polynomial basis" is a basis of a polynomial ring. This article about another notion of polynomial bases. I have edited it to introduce the most common usage. But this is not the only terminology problem in this article. I'll been more specific.

The article defines as polynomial basis a basis consisting of the first powers of a root of a primitive polynomial. It seems that the author of the article was confused by the distinction between the notion of generating element and that of primitive element: a generating element is an element such that its first powers form a basis of the extension, while a primitive element is generating element such that every element of the field extension is a power of it (except 0). In the lead "polynomial basis" refers only to primitive elements, while in the remaining of the article, only the property of being a generator is used. I have not the time now to check the unique reference of the article, but I guess that the author of the article has misinterpreted it. This the reason for tagging as {{tl:disputed}}.
