redirect needs rethink

[edit]

This redirect is not really right, as coloration can protect an animal EITHER by making it hard to see (Camouflage) OR by making it look best not to attack (mimicry, aposematism).

It would be best therefore to have an actual page here.

There is another page (from Encyclopaedia Britannica 1911!) called Animal colouration (currently well out of date) which ought to cover much of the same ground, but with additional topics such as sexual selection which are neither camouflage nor mimicry.

In short the area needs reorganisation and tidying up. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:19, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, let's go for it

[edit]

I've redrafted Animal colouration as an overview page, with links to existing pages as Main Articles. So, I propose to make Protective coloration redirect to Animal colouration which includes it, rather than to Camouflage which is frankly a subset. Chiswick Chap (talk) 22:26, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
