90 killings for one horse
If this was a more real battle, the British may had lost just less, were American casualties would be a double digit figure. I will not accuse anyone of a false flag, but of battles that have been fought either by or within the US, which produced the most enemy killings relative to own casualties? --82.134.28.194 (talk) 09:04, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

massacre or Massacre?
I propose moving this article to Pyle's Massacre. Every account I know of capitalizes "massacre." Even the text of the article uses "Massacre." Wikipedia:Naming conventions recommends lowercase except when the word is almost always capitalized, but that is the case here. Any objections? Anyone who feels this should go through the formal renaming process? --Groggy Dice 22:44, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
After taking a deeper look, this may be more complicated. A search of Googe turned up somewhat more results for "Pyle's Defeat" than "Pyle's Massacre." This may be a better name, avoiding the potential POV issues of "massacre," and harmonizing with the name of Huck's Defeat. There are also Google hits for Battle of Haw River, but much fewer. On the other hand, we currently have Paoli massacre instead of Massacre. It was actually renamed to that, and if I had had a say, I would have opposed its move. Perhaps it would be best to hash out this question with a formal renaming request, to get the consensus of the wider community. Comments? --Groggy Dice 06:03, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
As the original author of this article, I based the naming scheme on the name given the even by local historians. The "official" book of the even is called "Pyle's Massacre", although "Pyle's Defeat" and "Pyle's Hacking Match" are also used (I prefer "hacking match", personally). Frankly, the "Defeat" term is probably a less confusing description, since the phrase "Pyle's Massacre" doesn't tell you whether it's Pyle Massacring or Pyle Getting Massacred. If it comes down to it, I'm OK with moving this page to Pyle's Massacre (a mistake in capitalization on my part), and maybe using redirects on all the rest. 5minutes 08:15 PM EDT Oct 3 2006
- Yes, Massacre was a mistake in capitalization. WP avoids unnecessarily capitalization, per MOS:CAPS. Sources that don't cap it include this encyclopedia and this dissertation and this book and this book and this book and this paper among others. So it's not clear why Groggy Dice said "Every account I know of capitalizes 'massacre'." It shouldn't be about just what he knows of. Dicklyon (talk) 23:53, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
