Edits for Racial Trauma Page
[edit]I was wondering what kind of sources you planned on using for this particular article? I know that there is a lot of University research out there that discusses Racial trauma in relations to PTSD. The University of Virginia Press and Baylor University Press has several different writers and publishers that talks about African-American trauma and especially African-American women trauma. Specifically, Baylor University discusses racial trauma in terms of how it relates to the psychologically effects of slavery. I hope that helps!
We could add different types of experiences and look into cumulative or chronic effects on individuals. Allisondraz (talk) 04:25, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi all! I am editing this page for a class. I am not removing anything that was previously added to the article, but I wanted to provide of summary of things I am planning to add: Causes of Trauma: This will include definitions like racial harassment, racial discrimination, overt versus covert racism, vicarious trauma, and intergenerational trauma Consequences of and Outcomes Associated with Racial Trauma: This will include some psychological symptoms people commonly suffer from when they are experiencing racial trauma and also how racial trauma may present differently across the lifespan. Arguments Against Labeling Racial Trauma as a Mental Illness: There is a great section on here talking about some researchers that want to frame racial trauma in the context of PTSD. I thought it was important to also include the researchers who are against this position. Variations among Racial Groups: This will include some of the events that commonly trigger trauma responses in certain racial groups and how responses to racial trauma in some racial groups vary. Resilience and Healing from Racial Trauma: This will include both common forms of healing across racial groups and models that were created specifically with a particular racial group in mind.
Feel free to edit anything that does not seem fitting! The intention was just to add more information to this post since it seems to get a notable amount of views. Clarissa Velez 17:41, 16 November 2021
Planning to add some assessments for racial trauma and expand on the treatment section ("Resilience and Healing from Racial Trauma") within the next few weeks or so! Would love to hear if anyone has thoughts. Maya Wong, 23:50, 18 October 2022
