Demolition

[edit]

The Regent was NOT demolished in 1984. It was demolished in 1988 - starting in around December. See the Sydney Morning Herald on 16 December 1988 for more details. Also the demolition was not illegal per se - Permanent Conservation Order 151 was revoked by the Minister for Planning and Local Government - this was challenged and went to at least the Supreme Court of NSW, which upheld that the Minister had the power to do so. The loss of the Regent was a great loss to the city of Sydney, and that end of George St in particular. Fuzznut 13:14, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
