The Neil Tesser piece on Sonny Rollins' 1955 sojourn in Chicago is great stuff, but if Rollins worked with John Gilmore and Sonny Blount at the Rhumboogie, he would have had to do it when he was only 17, John was 15, and (according to everything I've read) John and Sunny had yet to work together. Good point! Is it at Harvard that they have that ongoing study on memory distortion? I s'pose it just boils down to the fact that however great a musician may be, he/she is still mortal. And given their higher-than-average mobility, they probably mix dates and venues more than the rest of us - i.e. if I'd been to the Rhumboogie to see a great gig, I'd probably remember it for the rest of my life. Sunny (working with John at the time) had a gig at the Grand Terrace for a couple of months in 1955. Not in the same neighborhood as the Rhumboogie, but another grand old South Side venue.-RLCampbell (talk) 15:29, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
