Question[edit]

What would be the rhyme scheme of abca?

  • Example: big, cat, mouse, dig. Does that help? -- Lenoxus 13:25, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Simple 4-line[edit]

Does it exist? I googled and I found Monorhyme poetry, the first red link'd style, but nothing on the former. Where is the source? Not that I'm being a deletionist, I actually do want to keep it, but I just want to know where the info came from.--JDitto 02:06, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't heard of the name, but I believe some ballads use this rhyme scheme. I'll see if I can find any sources for this. Stumps 09:07, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh well. Thanks for helping, anyways. --JDitto 19:05, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I found some poems that relate with simple 4-line. Because of this I decided to go ahead and make some, feel free to edit it slightly if you want or give it an overhaul.--Joshic Shin 18:14, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm skeptical as well; it's a common rhyme scheme but I feel we're attaching a random name to it. In any case, I moved it out of "sonnet", since it's not. It could be used to construct sonnets (maybe: they are usually much tighter) but so could many of these. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bennetto (talkcontribs) 19:47, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Noise?[edit]

What's that about elephants (bottom of page)? I don't get it. Please remove. Zin (talk) 17:16, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Needs Clarification[edit]

If anyone overhauls this page, perhaps you could better explain why some rhyme schemes have capital letters and some have lower case letters. I came to this wiki to learn more about rhyme schemes, and I leave this wiki feeling more confused than I was before! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.31.215.134 (talk) 19:38, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The anwser's given in the section on Onegan stanza's: "letters representing feminine rhymes and the uppercase representing masculine rhymes". As an extra, is there any reason why so many of the poetic forms seem to be dedicated to Robert frost? I know he's good, but it just seems a bit... excessive. Perhaps other poets could also be mentioned more than once? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.147.90.103 (talk) 13:45, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a section explaining notation explicitly. -- Beland (talk) 17:12, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Raven Rhyme[edit]

The Raven's rhyming is currently listed as: AA,B,CC,CB,B,B. Isn't it: AA,AB,CC,CB,B,B?

Meaning:

Once upon a midnight DREARY (A), while I pondered, weak and WEARY (A),

Over many a quaint and CURI(A)ous volume of forgotten LORE (B),

While I nodded, nearly NAPPING (C), suddenly there came a TAPPING (C),

As of some one gently RAPPING (C), rapping at my chamber DOOR (B).

Garbled text?[edit]

The first sentence of the second paragraph makes no sense: "Tith its own associations and resonances to cause a particular effect on the reader." I have no idea what this was intended to say. PapayaSF (talk) 03:45, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's since been removed. -- Beland (talk) 17:13, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Convert list to table[edit]

the "examples" list could be converted to a table, with the following columns: "Name", "Scheme" (ABAs), and "Notes" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:6001:E24C:A700:CCFD:50FF:A785:637F (talk) 12:11, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notation[edit]

I've just finished making the notational conventions used on this page internally consistent, and explained them explicitly. My next step is going to be to edit all the linked articles so they use the same conventions, though what I did here is also informed by what some of those pages were doing. To make sure I'm not going in completely the wrong direction, I'm going to take a brief pause before doing that to see if anyone here has any comments or corrections or questions? -- Beland (talk) 17:20, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
