Contested deletion

I contest the deletion of this redirect since the deletion criteria cited by the nominator (implausible typo or misnomer) do not apply and the deletion is not uncontroversial. SPS is the official abbreviation for Sony's camera service programme for professional photographers Sony Imaging PRO Support, as is well documented in the redirect's comment. The redirect is perfectly valid according to our guidelines for redirects at WP:REDIR, and none of the criteria at WP:REDIR#DELETE applies, whereas several of WP:REDIR#KEEP are met. --Matthiaspaul (talk) 08:42, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The point is that you nominated a redirect for deletion without proper reasons - there's no typo or misnomer in SPS. Per WP:REDIR#DELETE and WP:REDIR#KEEP, the relevant guideline, there's also no other valid reason to delete the redirect. Redirecting from the name of a special service programme for Sony α cameras to our main Sony α article is useful (for as long as we don't have a dedicated article on it, that is). I agree that in an ideal world the target article would have had better coverage, but Wikipedia is a work in progress - Rome wasn't built in a day - and this alone is no reason to delete the redirect. So, instead of nominating such redirects for deletion, I would have found it more collaborative and also a more useful utilization of our precious time towards reaching Wikipedia's goals, if you'd just added to the article what you found lacking.
