Are Siberian Yupiq Native Americans?

[edit]

I find this slightly confusing:

Under Demographics it says:

The racial makeup of the city was 95.33% Native American, 4.35% White, 0.16% Asian, and 0.16% from two or more races.

... whereas the "history" section says:

Between 1878 and 1880 a famine decimated the island's population. Many who did not starve left. The remaining population of St. Lawrence Island was nearly all Siberian Yupik.

So they are certainly indigenous but not exactly indigenous Americans. --Johannes Rohr (talk) 13:00, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
