Merger[edit]

The Scymnognathus page should be merged with Gorgonops for the following reasons:

1. The type species of Scymnognathus, S. whaitsi, is congeneric with Gorgonops Owen, 1876, yet is a valid species of Gorgonops (Sigogneau, 1970, 1989).

2. Scymnognathus parringtoni (the species illustrated in this article) is neither Gorgonops nor Aelurognathus but instead a valid species of Sauroctonus, a gorgonopsian previously known only from European Russia (Gebauer 2014).
