Summarising my recent edit

[edit]

I did a big reshuffle, which I think the article needed.

Previously, all of the content was related to self-similar processes in the sense of autocorrelations - I've kept all sourced content and moved it to a section on "Second-order self-similarity". I've made the connection to long-range dependence explicit, and I've shrunk the discussion on heavy-tailed distributions (like the list of communication protocols) because that has its own article. The section on network performance was uncited (except that slideshow...) and jargony - if someone wants to reinstate that with references, please do.

I also added a section on processes with distributional self-similarity, and that lovely gif of the Brownian motion falling into itself.

There are other types of self-similarity, like operator self-similarity or self-similarity for integer-valued processes. They would also be nice to see on this page. GanzKnusper (talk) 17:32, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
