Is there a source for the date being 14th July 1979? The Shadow Cabinet election result (Benn did not stand in this election as he had decided to leave the Shadow Cabinet) was on the 14th of June and Owen's appointment is reported in the The Glasgow Herald of 15th June 1979 - indeed it was headline news as it was seen as a demotion.[1]. It is possible the changes did not immediately take effect, but I also think it is possible that the date here is an error and should be 14th June 1979. Also I would note that the Shadow Secretary of State for Defence article suggests that the change there took place on 14th June, so I think 14th July is an error.Dunarc (talk) 23:26, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
