Cleanup controversies[edit]

I deleted the Sim River and Sim, Perm Krai links because they both linked to articles that had no further information about them; as far as I can tell, there is no article that offers information about either location (the latter isn't even linked or mentioned anywhere but the disambig page; the former is mentioned in a couple of articles about towns adjacent to the river, but if I wanted to learn about Sim River I still can't see those articles being offered as resources). If someone really feels that an entry for the river should be included, I'd suggest linking to Bashkortostan, which does at least mention the river in a list among about a dozen others in that region.

In regard to the order of entries, I'm not aware of any justification for placing the list of people first; going by MOS:DP, most of those people shouldn't really be listed at all, since they're not commonly known by the single name "Sim." Certainly, they're not the most likely target for someone searching for just "Sim". I know this page was categorized, pre-cleanup, as both a disambig page and a surname page; I removed the latter because it makes no sense to include general disambiguation entries on a surname page, while it does make some sense to include surnames as part of a dab page. Surnames are by far the minority of the entries, after all. Propaniac (talk) 19:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, I seem to have missed when this particular MOSDAB clause was revised. The current edition sure does not help the Russia project since we'll now have to create oodles of substubs on every locality just to satisfy this clause. Note that having red links on dab pages very much helps us prevent creation of articles under non-compliant titles (i.e., those which break WP:RUS, WP:NC:CITY#Russia, or both). Very, very disappointing... I don't much care about the Sim River being removed, but having a link to Sim, Perm Krai on this dab explains why the Sim, Chelyabinsk Oblast article is titled the way it is and why it is in accordance with provisions set forth in WP:NC:CITY#Russia.
As for the people being listed first, you are correct that the guidelines do not explicitly prescribe doing that, but, in my experience, this is the most common practice. I don't have a strong feeling about this, though.
Anyway, just ranting. I'll make a substub about the settlement and add the link back; otherwise everything seems alright. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 19:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Game[edit]

The first or second volume of the Journal of Recreational Mathematics has an article on Sim as the graphical game on six vertices where players take turns filling edges and the objective is for the opponent to be the first to complete a triangle. Is that here by another name? If so, it should be disambiguated here; if not, it should have an article (as it is well known).Julzes (talk) 05:31, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
