Basketball Simming
[edit]Does anyone have any information on basketball simming as added by 70.161.200.193? I'm not familiar with this and there aren't any references discussing it. WarpFlyght 07:05, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
I've never heard of a basketball sim... it should be deleted, or at the very least changed so it doesn't say they're "popular."--Chas Hammer 00:41, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
I reworded it to remove the word "popular" and added a comparison to the popularity of sci-fi/fantasy sims. --WarpFlyght 06:01, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Message boards
[edit]This should probably include simming on AOL message boards, and subsequently, Internet message boards. --SparqMan 01:11, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
- The intro mentions simming on forums, which was intended to cover both (I wrote the passage). There are probably other message board types aside from AOL-based and web-based that are either used or have been used in the past, so I didn't want to get more specific than that. I suppose we could expand it into a full section on typical simming practices/methods of the various formats. I avoided adding that to the article earlier because I was concerned that I might not be able to give the methods (and locations) equal coverage. If you want to add more detail on those, go for it. Merge From Star Trek (simming)
[edit]The Star Trek (simming) article is a stub on the same subject covered in more detail by this article. Although this article doesn't cover Star Trek simming specifically, nearly all of the information is pertinent and the content was written to completely cover simming as it exists in the Star Trek expanded universe. I don't see any reason to keep the Star Trek (simming) article separate from this one.
That article does mention simming taking place in a live-action form, which this article does not. That would be the only change necessary for this article to entirely cover the material presented there. --WarpFlyght 09:07, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
It makes sense to combine Star Trek simming into this. However, I'm not familiar with live-action simming... unless they're talking about clubs or groups of friends who build a mock set and play out a scene... but that's different because simming is strictly an online thing.--Chas Hammer 00:39, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
I tend to agree. I've never heard of real live action Star Trek roleplaying referred to as simming. I'd be interested to talk to the author of that article and see what experience he/she has with live action games that refer to themselves as sims. --WarpFlyght 05:55, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Merge from text simming
[edit]I don't think they should be merged. A cross reference would make sense... "While both are computer based and use words to recreate an environment, simming and text simming should not be confused..." something to that effect. There's a fundemental difference... simming is based around independent clubs that anyone can sign online and join for free. Text sims are structured games that one has to buy. --Chas Hammer 16:57, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- Good point. I just revisited some of the links and I get that feeling as well. In that case, the basketball sim reference in this article should probably be removed, since it sounds like the user who added it was referring to text simming. WarpFlyght 04:07, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
Humm... it looks like a higher up came by and merged in text simming.--Chas Hammer 22:09, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
#holosuite
[edit]added comment that the holosuite existed on startrek.com long before 2002. I know not if it was the original form of free-form simming, but it was one of the most popular places.
A section dedicated to simming without a GM, where the players drove the story-line in a social hierachy should also be added. It's major in many simmers roots.
Merger of simming and Play-by-post_role-playing_game
[edit]Text and/or other creative content from simming was copied or moved into Play-by-post_role-playing_game with [permanent diff this edit]. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists. |
