I will be reviewing this article. Expect comments by tomorrow. Npthura (talk) 17:05, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Infobox and lead
- Wikilink "EA Canada" in the infobox.
- Shouldn't Sam Nelson be considered a producer in the infobox? He is considered the executive producer of the game according to the manual.
- Lead seems fine.
- Gameplay
- "...who must finish in fifth place or higher in races against a varying amount of skaters;" Mention that getting fifth place or higher allows the player to advance to the next level.
- "During a race, the skater can accelerate, jump, crouch, attack neighboring racers, and engage in skitching..." Some of these movements aren't really acknowledged in the sources.
- "Weapons such as nunchaku, chains, pipes, crowbars, whips, and baseball bats can be picked up off the road..." Most of the wikilinked words shouldn't be linked per WP:OVERLINK.
- "Ramp" shouldn't be linked per WP:OVERLINK.
- "...but puts the skater at risk of being apprehended by the police and fined if they crash within the car's vicinity." The source cited does somewhat acknowledge this, but only mentions that the player can get "busted" by the police, now how they get caught by them.
- "Crashing without adequate protective gear will drain the skater's health faster, and the skater will be required to pay a hospital bill if their health is depleted." Like above, although the source does somewhat mention some of this, it only acknowledges that the player will go to the hospital if their gear wears all the way down.
- "The game ends prematurely if the skater lacks the funds to pay a hospital bill or fine, or cannot afford to replace worn out skates." The source cited doesn't mention what happens if both of these scenarios occur.
- More to come later. If you have any questions or think my comments are incorrect, let me know. Npthura (talk) 01:29, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
- All points thus far have been addressed. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 23:30, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
- Development and release
- For some reason, I can't access "Grazing Saddles: The Complete History of Road Rash". Is there any other internet link to the pages?
- Managed to dig up another archive link, thankfully. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 23:30, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
- "...the development team went to the Skate Ranch in Toronto, where they..." Change this to: "...the development team went to Skate Ranch, a skating area in Toronto, where they..."
- Troy's last name, according to the credits, is spelled "Mannering", not "Manering".
- Aside from the GamePro article, his resume spells it "Manering" as well. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 04:48, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Wikilink "cartridge" to "ROM cartridge".
- For the first sentence of the fourth paragraph, Reference 2 doesn't mention when the game was released.
- None of the references in the sentence stated above actually acknowledge when the game was released in NA and EU.
- The American publication GamePro lists "Available March" below the game's score, and the European publication Mean Machines lists "Release: March" in the review's left-hand column. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 04:48, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Mention that the game's ad received criticism for its use of profanity.
- Reception
- Wikilink "Road Rash".
- "and some considered the application of the series formula to the sport of inline skating to be a novel concept..." This phrase sounds wonky. Change this to: "and some considered the use of the series formula for the sport of inline skating a novel concept..."
- For the source that are cited for the two player mode, can you put them in a note like some other sentences?
- "...which Mister Blister attributed to a slightly sluggish input." Specify that it's the controller input.
- Wikilink "scrolling" and "sprites".
- "Lord and Mean Machines Sega's Rob Bright lamented..." In my opinion, "criticized" is a better word to use than "lamented".
- Wikilink "Genesis" in the last sentence.
- The last sentence states that the game was the fifth highest renting video game during August, but the page cited has the title "September Hot Rentals".
- It's only called that because the chart was released in the September issue. All of EGM's rental information pertains to the previous month, since it's obviously impossible to get complete rental information for an ongoing month. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 04:48, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Shouldn't the rating from EGM be 29/50 instead of 30/50?
- Move the review rating for Mega between Mean Machines and VideoGames, since everything else seems to be in alphabetical order.
- Mega doesn't have its own designated field, and all custom reviewer fields wind up at the bottom. Far as I know, there's no way to fix that. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 04:48, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- References
- Sources appear to check out.
- Is it possible to cite the instruction manual less in the gameplay section? I understand that primary sources are fine to use, but the amount of times the manual is used as a source is excessive. There are many sentences in the gameplay section that could be instead cited with article reviews.
- A game's instruction manual, being a first-hand account by the developers themselves, ought to be the foremost source to use when discussing a game's mechanics. Second-hand sources such as magazine reviews should only be used to elaborate on points and details that the manual happens to overlook. Having that said, aside from a couple or so instances, there's hardly much the reviews go over that isn't already covered in the manual. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 04:48, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Images
- Image rationales and captions appear to check out.
- I am done with comments. Sorry for the long wait; I had private issues to deal with. Again, if you have any questions or think my comments are incorrect, let me know. Npthura (talk) 02:29, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Most of the new points have been addressed. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 04:48, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- I have done a bit of copyediting to some of the sections of the article. Feel free to revert any changes you think aren't necessary. As all of my comments have been addressed, I will promote this article to GA status. Npthura (talk) 22:11, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
