I have made a start on the formatting and tried to make the article more readable but there are still several issues which need to be addressed:

  • The style is that of an essay or dissertation rather than that off an encyclopaedia. It needs some serious copy-editing.
  • The article is long to the point of almost being unreadable & could do with a prune.
  • Many of the entries in the further reading section are duplicates of cited references and need to be removed.
  • The reference list is very long and contains a number of duplicates which need to to be re-cited using <ref name=nnn>
  • There are several sections (mainly quotes) which are in French. Translation to English is required.
  • Thought needs to be given to the relationship between this article and Society of the Friends of the Blacks as there is a lot of cross over.

There is also the question of whether the article should be renamed to the English translation to match the above. In the meantime I am renaming to correct the capitalisation. nancy 10:52, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. There is a lot of well-written stuff here, but it has a serious wall-of-text problem. Potentially a really good article (or a number of good additions to other articles). Mcewan (talk) 11:16, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

Propose merging with Society of the Friends of the Blacks. I know the text here will need cutting down to go in there, but there is really no logic for a separate article, since the society's purpose was to abolish slavery, therefore that is where its efforts were directed.
