The exposure "controversy"[edit]

The thing is. We can't self-declare controversies. Yes we now have a link with a quote from Nigel about it but that still doesn't make it "controversial". I don't see a big brouhaha on the net or anything about what this really was. I googled '"so you think you can dance" controversy', and got quite a number of results relating to the incident in question. I'm not sure what you mean by a brouhaha, but I see numerous sources with various opinions on the matter. If controversy isn't the right word, perhaps we could use the term "media event"? Or would "online media event" be more appropriate? Furthermore, the "official" responses by Fox would seem to indicate, at the very least, that they for one do not consider this a non-issue. I also kind of question whether the situation warrants the title "controversy" given that, even if it had gotten much wider exposure, simply because even the more sensitive viewers would probably not be offended if they knew the explanation for the event (and took the producers at face value). This isn't like certain other notable televised wardrobe malfunctions where the nudity was undeniable and the focus was not on whether it had happened but rather whether or not it was outrageous. All of that said, I don't see any problem with it being exactly where it is, since minor event or not, there's not better place for it than a controversy subsection. But here's what I would consider a more germane question: do we even need mention of this incident? Seriously, what is this adding in terms of truly pertinent information? - Snow (May 19, 2011)

Mia Michaels[edit]

Should we really have a complete section on her departure? Why not then have a full section on Adam becoming a permanent judge? I know Mia has been important to the show but she's not the host or a regular judge. I agree that there SHOULD NOT be a section about this. Michaels has actually "quit" the show before and returned toward the end of the season. To this date, the only cast members that have contracts are Lythgoe, Deely, Murphy, and now Shankman - everyone else has an open invitation to be a guest choreographer or judge. So, quitting isn't really possible since it never has been a permanent job. I think, because major sources like EW have articles about it, it might be worth factoring into the article at the top, perhaps? But I agree that an entire section is going overboard, bordering on fancruft; chances are, she'll probably be involved in some way in the future. I just think it is worth mentioning that right before this season's voting rounds began, she decided to leave, allegedly on her own accord. Are you talking about the Top 20 contestants chart? I fail to see why it's necessary, it's basically the elimination chart all over again. All of the information about the dancers' ages and cities of origin, as well as dates of elimination can be put in their individual biographies on a "Finalists" article, just like we've done for the past 5 seasons. I think it's a plus, primarily because it draws attention to the dancers' genres/styles. And it's easily noticeable to passersby, while the separate page of contestants is not. However, I'm torn, 'cause I also see the redundancy, haha. But the other countries do it, so it doesn't bother me. Paula Van Oppen.[edit]

I haven't seen the show yet, so I'm not positive if this is a behind-the-scenes confirmation or something that was dramatized either on last week's show or Monday's show. But she was originally accepted into the Top 20 over Ashleigh Di Lello but turned it down, citing she's accepting a film offer instead, so I'm going to watch it later; if it was acknowledged, I'll find a source and add it to Las Vegas week...if not, and there's no official non-blog source, then I guess this was pointless. Just asking here if there are any objections or this sounds like an apt plan, since I suspect some might make unconstructive edits in an attempt to factor this info in. Just a heads-up: rumors are circulating that Bell had to drop out of the competition, due to a contagious illness. He's apparently being replaced by Brandon Dumlao. So, as with Van Oppen, I will keep a heads-up for articles confirming this--particularly this one, as it has more impact if it's true.
