Clarification needed[edit]

Could anyone clarify if Somalia Petroleum Corporation and Somali Petroleum Company are the same company or different companies. If they are different companies, redirecting Somali Petroleum Company here is not justified. If they are the same company, the correct solution would be moving the existing article into the new title to preserve its history. In this case, the edit histories of these two articles should be merged and the information about Somali Petroleum Company as a predecessor of Somalia Petroleum Corporation should be restored in this article. The info on the prospective Somali Petroleum Company was largely o/r. At any rate, the Somali Petroleum Corporation appears to be the state-run firm's registered name now that it has been both established and incorporated. Middayexpress (talk) 17:09, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't anything to merge but original research; the stub also already re-directs here. In any event, the Somali Petroleum Company was apparently more of a prospective project/future company than an actual firm. The Somali Petrolium Company article (the original one) was probably a provisional name; as the corporation was only established in 2014... While a move would have been more elegant; making a new article and a redirect (with the historical info that I provided) should IMO be enough; especially because the info at the first article was not used for the second article. I have no problems doing a WP:history merge however if that is not too much time and since it would have no effect on the present article.... L.tak (talk) 19:53, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A re-direct here covers it since even the establishment date for the Somali Petrolium Company that was indicated in the stub appears to have been wrong. The Somalia Petroleum Corporation was apparently established in 2007 (not in 2008 or 2014), following the passing of the Somalia Petroleum Law by the Transitional Federal Government [2].
