Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because contrary to what the person who wants to delete it said, the Sotik lion is not just referred to in a few publications like these[1][2] and the target page gives information like that it wad in the Sotik Plains, and Theodore Roosevelt shot one of these lions. Leo1pard (talk) 13:19, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Both references are 100 years old. A lion shot in this area more than 100 years ago is not worthy a page in wikipedia. It's superfluous the more as it contains only a redirect, but NO info about this dead lion(s). -- BhagyaMani (talk) 13:23, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You would add references that are even older than the references that I provided, and treat a subject that's much older than a lion like this with relevance, so age of references or the subject does not determine if it is worthy or not. Leo1pard (talk) 13:41, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is NOT an index for lion individuals, and less so for dead ones, of which only a taxidermy skin remains somewhere in the cellars of a museum collection. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 13:48, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is not an individual lion, I have already shown that. Leo1pard (talk) 13:52, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Even if it were 2 or 3 lions, this redirect page is dispensable. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 13:56, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not just 3 either, I did say that I know other things, like what I said to you just now. Leo1pard (talk) 13:57, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This discussion is moot. This is a redirect, not an article. It does not have to be notable and doesn't have to demonstrate that notability either in text or with references. It merely has to be a possible and plausible term that someone may look for in Wikipedia, and not blatantly promotional, abusive, or mis-leading. It doesn't even have to redirect to a synonym, valid or otherwise, merely to the best possible place in Wikipedia to send the reader. Before adding any more speedy deletion tags, you should carefully read WP:SPEEDY. Criteria G6 is for technical deletions, those that are required for housekeeping and administrative tasks such as page moves over an existing redirect or redirects to nonexistent targets, and entirely inappropriate for this type of objection to a redirect. I will remove this one. I suggest you examine your other recent edits and find a more suitable way to resolve your issues. WP:RFD is a possible place to resolve problematic redirects, but it is worth noting that the bar for actually deleting a redirect is very high. Lithopsian (talk) 14:14, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
