Article name[edit]

My opinion is that this should be part of the Huon Highway article - yes, even if the Southern Outlet is a separate entity, it still makes sense for it to be part of the Huon Highway article. Anyway, even if this doesn't happen, It would need to be moved to Hobart Southern Outlet as Launceston (and no doubt many other cities) have a Southern Outlet as well. -- Chuq 12:02, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would support that SatuSuro 12:05, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Having said that my copy of Tas Towns street atlas (p230 of 6th edition) has s-o (Dynnyrne) and s-o (Kingston) - which are two sep maps for hobart - no mention of other southern outlets in that edition... oh well SatuSuro 12:12, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not saying that the IP which says the Hobart-Kingston highway is not part of the Huon Highway is wrong - the Southern Outlet is the formal name for the Hobart-Kingston road [1]. However, not every separately named item needs a separate article - (for example List of characters in Heroes). Southern Outlet could easily have a sub-section of the Huon Highway article.
The Launceston to Bass Hwy/Midlands Hwy interchange isn't formally know as "Southern Outlet" - it is known as part of the "Midlands Highway" [2] - but it is colloquially referred to as the Southern Outlet. -- Chuq 00:18, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Therein lies the rub - colloquial local terms - vs the written record - the issue then is attribution/verifiablity - have you a reference to the Lonnie version? SatuSuro 04:42, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No shortage of those - [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]. However don't forget this is only relevant if it is decided that Southern Outlet should be it's own article anyway. -- Chuq 06:30, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hope this is thought through very carefully, the two highways in question have same route numbers, but never the less, they are completely different highways. also the Kingston Transport study indicates the southern Outlet will soon be extended beyond Kingston Interchange To Bypass Kingston to Algona Road. It'd Be like having the Brooker Highway and Midland Highway on same page, same route numbers, but entirely different highways. regards Wiki ian 06:39, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
