Critical Reception section missing[edit]

Surely this album was reviewed in lots of places by professional critics. This article needs a table of selected critical scores, and text to go with it, summarizing the critical reception and quoting the more interesting critical reviews. --Mareklug talk 13:00, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

There hasn't been very many reviews yet, at least by notable reviewers. Waiting until July 23rd and onward, especially when it has a metacritic score, will make it much easier and give a general understanding of how it was received. --(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 15:35, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
An IP editor added this section on 20 July, 3 days before the release, and the cited reviews are eminently notable (two Guardian ones, even). Now it needs a score table for professional reviews added to that section. --Mareklug talk

Explained changes[edit]

First of all, Jocelyn Vena never described the album as "dance-heavy" dubstep, just called it "dance-song-heavy". Club music genre in "Birthday" does not appear, the author means club-oriented song (for dance in clubs, is not club music genre). Added electropop genre. In "Come & Get It" tribal-electropop does not exist as a genre, the source means electropop song in tribal-style. In "Forget Forever" it says "it would fit perfectly in a European disco", so this is not saying that the song is in the eurodisco genre. Added synthpop. In "B.E.A.T" says "minimal spoken word electro" not electronic. In "Write Your Name" i added synthpop. Added dance genre with a better source. ALL ADDED GENRES ARE SOURCED. Thanks. Justasaddream (talk) 16:00, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Vena said the album was "dance-song-heavy", not that 'Birthday' was. Did she say that 'Birthday' was dance-song-heavy? No. Would that even make sense? No. The statement "Gomez makes good on her promise of serving up dance music on her new album, out July 23." does NOT mean the album is Dance, it just means that there WILL be dance music on the album, not that the whole album is Dance music. Furthermore, the Wikipedia page for Dance music isn't even described as a genre, it's literally any genre that you can dance to. However the page for electronic dance music states that "Electronic dance music (also known as EDM, dance music, club music, or simply dance)" Which the MTV calls it. Theres a large difference between dance and dance-pop. --(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 16:56, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Personally, I think it's best to keep the genres simple as possible and better yet, to explain how these styles apply within the article than just adding them into the infobox. This helps readers rather than an arbitrary list of genres. In this case, adding dance music doesn't really expand the user's understanding as the other genres are already dance-oriented styles of music. So adding it seems a little unnecessary. Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:00, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Okey, i already corrected my fails but (GA)Guacobbe invented some genres in "Music" that doesn't appear in the source. See it above, it's edited. Justasaddream (talk) 18:10, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

"Slow Down" release[edit]

Gomez released "Slow Down" as a digital download if you pre-order the album first! The song has been released as a single, charted as a single, and even a music video has been released for it! The song is definitely the second single from the album! ChicagoWiz 14:35, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm gonna copy the article and put in my sandbox for expansion. The single was released as digital download ONLY if you pre-ordered "Stars Dance." It was still released as a SINGLE, NOT PROMOTIONAL! Therefore, I will expand the article with reliable references that I've found through the internet!
A music video does not make a song a single. Also "songs" and not just "singles" can chart. See Billboard Hot 100#Hot 100 policy changes at Album cuts. "...on December 5, 1998 the Hot 100 changed from being a 'singles' chart to a 'songs' chart." "Slow Down" is promotional because its only available if you pre-order the album. You get one of the album tracks early while you wait for the rest. It is a "single" if it is sold as such and not just as a track from the album (early or otherwise). In some cases an official radio add date wherein the record label requests the commencement of radio play (spins) is accepted as basis to call a song a single. Example "I'm Out" with the radio material basis noted.—Iknow23 (talk) 06:41, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
But if you go to the source where the "Stars Dance" pre-order is, you can see that all the songs can only be released with the album, but "Slow Down" has an individual release at the price of $1.29. Check it out: 1
At iTunes look below at "Top Albums and Songs By Selena Gomez". There you will see "1 ... Come & Get It ... Come & Get It - Single" with link to AN INDIVIDUAL single release at 2 with its own date of April 9, 2013. Thus "Come & Get It" is a single. "Slow Down" has no such INDIVIDUAL release date. It is still just an album track made available for early download.—Iknow23 (talk) 16:11, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
See "Top Albums and Songs By Selena Gomez" at "2 ... Slow Down ... Stars Dance" shows that "Slow Down" is an album track from Stars Dance. It's not called a 'single'.—Iknow23 (talk) 16:17, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Sourced genres[edit]

"Birthday"'s electropop and dance genres sourced in Ilovepop source: "The song is a colorful mix of electro-informed pop and cheer squad-style dance[cont]". "Write Your Name"'s synthpop sourced in the Yahoo! review along "Forget Forever", which dance genre is sourced in 'Much Music' source: "The dance heavy song sounds like[cont]". I know you can see the sources with clarity in the article but someone is erasing genres without checking the sources. Thanks! Justasaddream (talk) 10:17, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

"Electro-informed pop" does NOT mean electropop, so the only sources would be electro punk and dance. "Forget Forever" is sourced as synthpop and dance-pop only, "dance-heavy" does not equal a dance song. "Write Your Name" is not sourced as synthpop, only Forget Forever is. These are just minor errors and probably done without constituting what counts as a songs composition. --(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 18:29, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Stars Dance genres[edit]

Voxxi source is invalid, i talked with an administrator and he confirmed it. ALL genres mainly sourced in AllMusic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justasaddream (talkcontribs) 21:04, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

Please don't revert cited material without reason. If you want to add any other genres, you need sources per WP:RS. 183.171.162.215 (talk) 14:40, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Next single(s)??[edit]

Hey guys! Lately, many users have added information about possivle next singles without citations. People have expected that Birthday, Save The Day, Undercover or Love Will Remember will be the next single, but if nobody have a citation, please stop adding wrong information... thank you Thewormsplayer (talk) 07:30, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Dead link[edit]

Hi, at Stars Dance#Certifications under Canada, the certification reference doesn't resolve, namely this URL 404s. I've tried searching, but I'm not getting anything and this is somewhat outside my field of knowledge. I tried slapping a {{dead link}} template after the link, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with the Certification Table templates and doesn't produce any visual indication that there is a problem with the ref. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:41, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
