Jimi Hendrix

the story about Stills' manager not passing the offer to join Hendrix's new band doesn't make sense because CSN didn't get together until 1968 (i'm pretty sure) but the Experence formed in 1966 The Fletch 22:53, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

I've changed it to Buffalo Springfield (and removed one of the four uses of the word "Stills" in that sentence, which was a bit cluttered). Is this story true, though? It's certainly plausible, but I've never heard it before. A source, perhaps? MrBronson 22:32, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

There are tapes of Jimi Hendrix and Stills' "jamming" togeather. In fact i'm listening too it now, They're called "The Basement Tapes" and it's soposed to be a session involving Stills' and Hendrix on guitar. I'm not sure who is playing drums/bass on it. Playing For The End 16:53, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Theh..

"However, Young would leave midway through the resulting tour due to an apparent throat infection."

more like:

"..before Young decided he'd had enough of Stills and packed it in. While driving their buses to the next gig, Young, fed up with Stills' drunken babbling over the CB radios, instructed his driver to head for Nashville instead of New Orleans, the next stop on the tour. Young then had an assistant send Stills and the rest of the band telegrams, which read, "Funny how things that start spontaneously end that way... Eat a peach, Neil." --85.167.145.26 13:58, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Miscelleny

Stephen has stated in several interviews I read in the 90s (sorry didn't save them) that he never auditioned to be an actor on The Monkees show. He applied to be one of the song writers for the show but wasn't accepted. He did recommend Peter Torkelson, that part is true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Endy9 (talkcontribs) 03:18, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

I have heard several versions of this story. I have no idea which, if any, of them is true. The story, as it appears in the article, has no reference given. As such, I have removed it, per WP:BLP standards. If it actually happened, it should be fairly easy for someone to find a valid source, and repost it. 2tuntony (talk) 06:42, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I will look up what is written in the official CSN biography. KitHutch (talk) 13:29, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I just screwed up this page trying to add a citation about Stills rubbing BBQ sauce on his bass strings. The quote is from an interview in Guitar Player, January 1976 (cover story) by Lowell Cauffiel. If anyone can fix it and add that citation, I would appreciate the help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stbernardparish (talkcontribs) 21:42, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Marital Status

I recently read that Stephen Stills is married. http://www.oticonusa.com/Oticon/News/StephenStills.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by Debbiesue52 (talkcontribs) 07:11, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Excellent source- please use it!

Here's a source I bumped into while trying to edit another article, going way back to a 1979 interview with Stills himself. Please use it! Musician magazine cover story of Stephen Stills Leahtwosaints (talk) 11:33, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Speech problem --- possible deafness; general health and well being

I saw an interview with Stills on Tavis Smiley. He manifests a significant speech impediment. This article should include information on that. Many fans --- people who love Stephen Stills --- are justifiably concerned about his state of health and well being. I researched this matter online and found, in the comments sections of several Youtube videos, statements to the effect that he has serious hearing loss resulting in a speech impediment. It is reported that he is nearly deaf, has had hearing loss since childhood, and uses two hearing aids. It would be good if some enthusiastic editor could research this and add some reliable information to this article. ---Dagme (talk) 01:50, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

I was wondering about this too..I saw the interview and he speaks exactly the way someone who has had a stroke talks...he slurs pretty bad and seems to be drooling..I always liked his music but over the years have heard a lot about his drug and alcohol abuse and was wondering if that had anything to do with it..I saw him on the Stills/Young band tour and he pounded beers the whole time on stage..I understand this is his personal life but he was a major star at one point and the article seems to be omitting some of his health issues Lonepilgrim007 (talk) 17:15, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

I looked again at this article today and found the following sentence in the "Personal Life" section:

"In 1976, Stills told Rolling Stone, "My hearing has gotten to be a terrible problem. If I keep playing and touring the way I have been, I’ll go deaf."[22]"

The Rolling Stone interview is still live online. So it seems conclusive that his speech impediment is due to deafness. In my opinion, Stills is a first rate musician and as a deaf one, he is in the best of company. ---Dagme (talk) 02:30, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

Almost cut his hair

His hair has only barely begun starting to turn gray. What's with that?

Talk Page vs. Discussion

This is a talk page to improve the Stephen Stills article. It is not a general discussion page for all things about Stephen Stills. See Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines for more information. KitHutch (talk) 12:45, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Stills as guitarist- sound and equipment

Where is the musician part of the article? Is his personal life more important than his life history and contributions to music?! Stills as guitarist, his sound and equipment (not to mention notable talent both as a solo singer and with Crosby and Nash, incredible sound in three-part harmony) as both a band member of several notable bands and solo career deserves a lot of work, and I see next to nothing there!! My jaw is still on the floor from that revalation... wait a sec.. OK, it's in my mouth again, but if it shocks me, I'm sure this article will leave readers feeling hollow. While speech impediments and personal relationships carry a degree of importance, I honestly think since this is a biography of a musician, perhaps the biography part can absorb the former into chronological prose, and the musician part can actually be added, since last I checked, it was mostly not there. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:05, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Recordings with Joni Mitchell

I seem to remember that Stills multiple instruments on several of the early Joni Mitchell albums (circa 68-71). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.129.245.114 (talk) 19:06, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

One tune that may be what you are referring to is "Blonde in the Bleachers" if memory serves. The album credits list Stills playing bass, guitar and keyboard (organ). Can't verify that as of this writing, but I will update when I find a source.THX1136 (talk) 16:00, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
I may have made a huge assumption. Stills is credited as "rock and roll band" on that tune. That aside, you are correct about his involvement in some of Mitchell's early albums. A quick look here at wikipedia shows him on several albums as playing bass and/or guitar depending on the song.THX1136 (talk) 16:10, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Proposal to update final photo in article

I'd like to propose to update the last photo in the article. It's four years more current, he's lost some weight, and I think the photo portrays his current appearance more accurately.

Good photo by Davidwbaker. I added it. Glenn Francis (talk) 07:25, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Proposal to add bass to his list of instruments

Stills played bass on the entire eponymous Crosby, Stills & Nash album, and prior to that he was asked to join Hendrix's band as a bassist. He continues to play bass on his own and CSN(Y) records, so I think it is warranted to add bass to his list of instruments. I added it to the info box previously and was told that this requires a discussion. DanielLevitin (talk) 18:52, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Proposal to add "Stephen Stills & Judy Collins" to Associated Acts

Stills is touring in 2017 with Judy Collins. They play together, they play alone, they share the same backing band. Should Associated Acts in the side bar be updated to reflect this? Elrey (talk) 16:54, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

Relationships?

There's nothing in this article about his personal life. Was he ever married? Etc. Moncrief 16:42, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, he was. With French singer/musician Véronique Samson. They have at least one kid, who is around 30 years old. That boy is increasingly becoming famous in France for his roles in several popular musicals. He sings and dances, and plays the guitar. But I don't know much more. I know that the Stills/Samson relationship was explosive, though. They took a lot of drugs, drank much alcohol, and Stills would often beat her up. Fearing for her life, she eventually took her kid away and fled back to France. She has been battling with drugs and alcohol since these days. Her career has been on a roller coaster for the past 25-30 years. A couple of years ago, she wrote a book about her marriage with Stills. I haven't read it. I just remember the TV interviews she gave when the book came out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.58.144.199 (talk) 08:05, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
There's actually a Wikipedia page on Véronique Sanson, Stills' ex-wife.LynnMaudlin (talk) 12:30, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Stephen Stills has been married three times: To Veronique Sanson, to Anne (cannot find last name), mother of their daughter Eleanor, and he is currently married to the former Kristen Hathoway. He has seven children, referenced here by his sister, Talitha Stills: Santa Cruz Patch http://santacruz.patch.com/articles/steven-stills-santa-cruz-sister-hosts-music-movie-debut Carry On: Stephen Stills' Santa Cruz Sister Hosts Music Movie Debut The Saturday showing of “Legends of the Canyon: Music and Magic of 1960’s Laurel Canyon” is a must-see for fans of 1960s music By Carol Carson | Email the author | April 26, 2011 “Our family had to adjust to the challenges of a rocker’s life like sex and drugs. Stephen has seven kids by six different women. We were in a moral quandary. I decided that you have to have unconditional love and accept them for whatever behaviors and relationships they start in their lives. That was a really big learning lesson. I am happy to say I have a sister-in-law that has been with my brother for 13 years. He finally grew out of that. It took him until his 50s.”—Preceding unsigned comment added by Stbernardparish (talkcontribs) 10:36, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
