Reference notes[edit]

Historical notes: Some references state the first horseless carriage repaired by the company was a 1905 Dixie Flyer by Southern Motor Car Company. The "Dixie Junior" and the "Dixie Tourist" was produced by "Southern Motor Car Company" in Houston from 1908 to 1910.[1] and a source even referred to it as the "Dixie Flyer".[2]

By 1914 the Hercules Motor Car Company of New Albany was reportedly set to build the Dixie Flyer with the Kentucky Wagon Manufacturing Company to build the body. Hercules went out of business in 1915, Kentucky Wagon acquired the company, and began production of the Dixie Flyer in 1916 as the Dixie Motor Car Company Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky.
A Congressional Record refers to Stewart & Stevenson repairing a Dixie Flyer[3] as well as a source listing the company history.[4] The Stewart and Stevenson company history just lists: 1905- "C. Jim Stewart & Stevenson repaired their first "horseless carriage.".[5]
