I deleted the information that Bruckner had been criticized for writing two consecutive symphonies (1 and 2) in the same key. Will reinstate it if someone can point to evidence of a sensible critic making this charge -- as a grounds for criticism it seems utterly idiotic to me. Grover cleveland 01:46, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Scherzo in second position
[edit]I have put the Scherzo in second position, as it was put in the first version of 1872. I added "Put in 3rd position in the later versions". I think the description should always refer to the first version of a Bruckner's symphony. --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 18:23, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Update of the page
[edit]Following a review of articles by William Carragan, as well as some discussions with the schoolar, I have made some updates of the page and restructured its layout. --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 13:21, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
- I have recordings of all versions and variants of the symphony. After listening again attentively to them and reading again Carragan's articles, I have restructured the section "Versions" accordingly. --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 16:23, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- I have further updated this section, among others by adding info about the performances of the different versions. --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 15:58, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
There is an earlier performance under Eugen Jochum than the EMI Dresden version you mention by the Bayerische Rundfunk Orchester, published in 1966 and described as Version 1875/6: Leopold NovakDelahays (talk) 12:35, 7 April 2018 (UTC)
- The section "Discography" is only a selection of the about 100 recordings - see: Complete discography of Symphony No. 2 in C Minor. There is indeed a previous recording with the Bayerische Rundfunk Orchester: DG - LP 139 132 (29 December 1966) of the 1877 version (Nowak edition). --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 14:20, 7 April 2018 (UTC)
Date of Carragan edition
[edit]Dear editors,
In the section "Versions", subsection "First version, 1972", this article currently states "This was published in a 2005 edition by William Carragan under the auspices of the Internationale Bruckner-Gesellschaft in 2005." This is cited to a reference [6] which as far as I can see gives no indication of the date or publisher. In the subsequent reference [5] however, Georg Tintner states the date of publication as 1991, and clearly it can't be 2005 as Tintner made his recording in 1996. Can this be changed to reflect what the reference says?
Thank you.

- I confirm that the 1872 version of the Symphony was issued by the MWV in 2005, see e.g. Discography Symphony No. 2 in C Minor. As indicated, Kurt Eichhorn recording of 1991 and Georg Tintner recording of 1996 used a pre-published Carragan edition.
- You can further see that the Carragan edition of the 1877 version of the Symphony was issued by the MWV in 2008. Daniel Barenboim recording of 1997 also used a pre-published Carragan edition.
- Best regards, --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 09:06, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
