The Río Tarcoles flows into the Gulfo de Nicoya but does not run through the Peninsula of Nicoya, which is further west. The Tarcoles flows through the Central Valley of Costa Rica, the mainland, if you will. The river does not flow directly into the Pacific but into the gulf.
