- Being a common term does not make it a valid disambiguation page entry. The purpose of this page is to guide readers to an article that gives information about a given topic that is ambiguous with the title. If you feel that this is a notable topic, then I would suggest you find an article on which it would be appropriate to describe "timeout detection and recovery" and add such a description, with a reliable source. - Either Windows OS or Device Driver is an acceptable link here. And yes, being a common term is exactly what DAB pages are for. You came up accross TDR somewhere? - Did you actually read MOS:DABMENTION? It says "If the topic is not mentioned on the other article, that article should not be linked to in the disambiguation page, since linking to it would not help readers find information about the sought topic." So no, those are not acceptable links. And again no, disambiguation pages are not simply for common terms or meanings. They are for guiding readers to topics that we have information for on Wikipedia. This is not my opinion. This is the stated purpose of these pages. -- Fyrael (talk) 22:04, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, but to steer back on course here to the best, most productive outcome, please see what I said above about adding this to an article. If this is truly a notable topic (and I believe you that it probably is), then it should not be that difficult to add. I would do it, but I don't feel I have the expertise to do so accurately. Once it's included on an article, then we will have nothing to disagree about and Wikipedia would be improved.
