More Information

I thought this page needed some more information so I took some snippets from the official page, altered them a bit for wiki standards and put them up. Also, this page needs SCREENSHOTS, NUMBER OF PLAYERS, PRICE, and just about everything else that's the same as other pages like SWG, EQ2, WoW, etc. -Moocats 18:05, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Adding screenshots at this point would, I think, be unwise, since character models, equipment and the interface may go through significant changes before release. Even with the prominent warning at the top of the page, I'm not in favor of adding any until the game is closer to retail.
After skimming through the official website, I can find no information on the maximum number of players supported by the game, nor any on a pricing scheme; indeed, I can find little information that is not covered in the article. In fact, the information on the character archetypes may be excessive.
Remember, this is a game in development, and if you know the gaming industry, then you probably know that developers - especially MMO developers - are often tight-lipped on even basic features up until a few months to the release date. The games you mentioned have been out for quite some time. Just give it a little while and people will add information as it comes.
Here's the features rundown from the official site:
Features
  • Go to the frontlines of a futuristic war in a massively multiplayer war game that combines the character growth of an RPG with the action of a shooter.
  • Players will participate in large scale battles with NPC allies against an intelligent enemy known as The Bane for control of entire planets.
  • Players will go behind enemy lines in missions that directly impact the war effort, either solo or with teammates.
  • Rich storyline and fictional universe features Richard Garriott’s signature creative vision and attention to detail.
  • It’s not all guts and guns; a mysterious power known commonly as “Logos,” allows players to harness the very fabric of the cosmos to offer rebel forces an advantage against an overwhelming foe.
  • Simplified game interface is complimented by built-in voice chat technology to create a seamless cooperative gaming experience.
Benefits
  • Role-playing game fans will enjoy a game design that focuses more on depth than complexity, with an immersive story and rich character growth driven by player choices.
  • First person shooter fans who crave a richer gaming experience will appreciate a massively multiplayer game that is reactive to player choices and allows for a broad range of character movement. They’ll also find FPS standards including explosions, vehicles and big guns.
  • Massively multiplayer online game fans will enjoy being able to garner rare collectibles and inventory, a large community to interact with, and frequently updated content to both the game and the storyline.

Indeed. Some info on pricing would be nice - are they adopting a traditional approach to it? --Rambutaan 05:46, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Maybe some information on the pictographs could be put here. I had the good fortune of attending a lecture given by Garriott where he explained a good portion of the language. I would be happy to pass on what I know though I wonder if anyone else might have some citable information. 71.145.199.28 07:07, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Revamp

Added in info from interviews with staff like Richard Garriott, Starr Long, and April "CuppaJo" Burba. Tried to keep it to the essentials and thus didn't include all aspects of the game. Any suggestions on what else to add? Gamer5389 06:18, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Anybody interested in taking the time to compile all the logos currently revealed onto one wiki page? 76.16.151.80 07:40, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
It would be an interesting thing to showcase but would it really be needed if we can just give a link to the official site's logos page? Gamer5389 22:08, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I don't believe it's needed, Maybe throw one up as an example, and link to the others since it's allready up on the official site. --Iatchi 19:30, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

So far I havent heard or read anything about most of the 4th tier classes, yet most of them have been filled in even though they have no citations to back up these claims, so I've marked the section as needing citations. Any got that info? --Tao of tyler 02:29, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Looking for sources to site

I read somewhere about the ability to Use Vehicles and Frames soon after release, I wanted to add this but not without the source to site...anyone know where this information might be?

Fair use rationale for Image:Tabula Rasa - CGV Game Logo.jpg

Image:Tabula Rasa - CGV Game Logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Tier tree

I believe the tier tree depiction in the article needs a redo. The current one is too crude and most unlike an encyclopedia article, and while it is useful in the case of providing a rapid update, I believe it is possible to do a better one now. Ariedartin JECJY Talk 03:21, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

I've changed the tier-tree to prose and have been using information now available at the game website about each class. I've only gotten up to tier 2, so if anyone else wants to help, please do. Just keep in mind that lists are frowned upon, so avoid them and try and maintain the style of prose that I have started. --Tao of tyler 22:53, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Payment

Will someone please get a clear note on wether or not there is a monthly fee. Thanks loads. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.109.92.184 (talk) 18:38, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

There will be a monthly fee when the game launches, but at this time of beta it's free. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.200.34.177 (talk) 17:59, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Wiki weirdness

I'm not sure if this is an issue between the two listed wiki's in the external links here, but in either case, either of those seem to be based on the other one...?

Just look here: Weapons @ tabularasawiki.org vs Weapons @ tabularasa.wikia.com. The articles are carbon copies of each other. Both sites are linked to from this article, but is one just a successor of another abandoned wiki, or are we simply looking at some massive copyright infringement? (in that case, it would be a matter between those two sites to resolve, obviously) If it's one being the successor of the other, then I think only one of the links (the more updated one?) should be listed here, and why I bring this up on Wikipedia. — Northgrove 16:39, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

  • Good point. I don't really want to get into the copyright aspect of things, but as far as quality goes, after looking over both wikis, the tabularasawiki.org seems to be a copy of an earlier version of the Wikia one and has since fallen into disuse. If I had to choose, I'd keep the Wikia one and ditch the .org, which someone already seems to have done. --85.5.190.67 13:49, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

European release date?

I notice there's no Euro release date, however the game's available. I'm not sure when it came out, but maybe someone who knows could fill in the blank. --85.5.190.67 00:35, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

There is a release date in the article stated in the first paragraph. It came out on both sides of the Atlantic and into retail on November 2nd. - Petrarch 10:10 12/11/07 (GMT)

Two things that could be improved on

Background

The background (as well as the "lore" section of a lot of MMOs) doesn't tie into the game well. Can some pleae explain how the background ties into the gameplay? For example, do they Eloh appear in the game and what kind of role do they play? Do they make any appearance? A few sections could be clearer to, such as why the thrax waged war on the Eloh.

Logos

What does it do? How about some examples. The section says it's equiviliant to magic in other games, but magic isn't always the same. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.222.250.130 (talk) 22:08, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

In basic terms, everything revolves around the logos - the Eloh shared this information with other races and it lead to a costly war when the Thrax turned against them that the Eloh narrowly won. After that they split into 2 factions - the Eloh who wanted to continue spreading the knowledge, and the Neph, who sought to control other races to ensure they would always be the "master" race. They allied themselves with the Thrax to do this. The remaining Eloh were almost totally wiped out by the Bane and those that survived went into hiding. The Brann homeworld was destroyed by the Bane and the Foreans have had dealings with the Eloh which made them targets as well.

The entire situation as it is in the game can effectively be traced back to the Neph, along with the Thrax, deciding to eradicate any race that may pose a threat to them either now or in the future. The Eloh had been to Earth and left behind technology for mankind to find, as they saw humans could use the knowledge of the logos. Like the other races, not everyone can access this power and those that can are called receptives. Earth was discovered and attacked basically because it was a homeworld and humans were considered a threat. The collectors edition manual goes into detail about the backstory. I'd agree it would do with expanding but I'd need to think about the best way to present it that's not waffley or overly complex.

As to the logos, the comparison to magic is inaccurate, except in a descriptive sense. The logos are presented as a science based process that grants knowledge which allows the manipulation of matter and energy in a manner of ways, including by the mind of a receptive. The wormhole techology and most other Eloh tech is shown to be based on the same principles. Petrarch 09 January 2008 00:20 (GMT)

Sarah Morrison

I am not sure if this should be included in the article. But I think its a honor for the game itself as of NCsoft. Sarah Morrison who is one the characters on the box art, was included in the Playboy December 2007 issue of Playboy's Annual Girls of Video Games. Playboy's Annual Girls of Video Games. If any editor doesn't agree to add this into the article post a reason why and etc. then Ill just keep the topic here. --҉ რɫՒ◌§ 9¤ 22:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Closing section needs updating

All of the scuttlebutt I've been reading online suggests that the closing night of the game saw a final defeat of the enemy forces, not a total destruction as the various cited news sources reported. The cited sources are all pre-closing news articles, none of them were written from a post-closing perspective. I'd edit the article myself, but I can't find anything suitably legitimate enough to cite. If this game did close with a bang that meant the heroes won, that's notable given how many MMOs shut down and just shut off. Kurosau (talk) 07:40, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

There is no "canon" story ending really. On Centaurus the EU one the devs (as the evil Neph aliens) were gloating about how humanity would be subjugated and world taken over etc over chat in the last few minutes, but some of us mentioned the Penumbra Omega Device (a "planetbuster" kind of missile doomsday device) and that we were gonna make sure to take them all with us... but on the official rgtr.com website (click the american flag at topleft) it mentions us "returning to earth" and a more positive note, and apparently in at least one of the Earth instances it was all clustered around Phi wormhole with flying glowing lumins and fireworks and dancing. So yeah, endings to please both realists and people who hate unhappy endings ;) --Kittins floating in the sky yay (talk) 13:47, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Mis-characterization of linked resource under "Litigation"

I've removed this:

"Richard Garriott is not the only person that NCsoft has upset but NCsoft's own game developers as well. [1]"

because - as the author of the referred link - I feel the description and context are incorrect and potentially damaging both to NCsoft and to myself.

It's great to have people linking to stuff I've written, but I'd greatly prefer NOT to have it implied that I'm involved in litigation with NCsoft!

If someone wants to re-instate the above text with a more balanced description, in a separate section, that would be great. 81.151.172.141 (talk) 21:36, 14 November 2009 (UTC) (Adam)

Page in Massive Need of Cleanup

The article is in serious need of cleanup regarding verb tense. As the game is now and for the foreseeable future offline and hence "dead," I should think most info would be best-suited in the past tense. This is the case in a few sentences, yet by and large most of it is in present tense, and some articles are even in the future, apparently still based on pre-release information.Aganar (talk) 01:00, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Oh it will be back :) I am in contact with people that are finishing off reverse engineering a server program (then releasing it into the open so NCsoft don't have any target to bitch at) :)

Litigation

This line: "It is also possible that Garriott may sue for rights to the intellectual property as well as a settlement to reopen and sustain the relaunch of the game servers under a newly formed game company as a measure of good faith to the original subscribers and investors." has no basis outside the mind of whoever wrote it. The citation pretty thoroughly explains why this will never happen. It's also just plain mean to create false hopes. Thus I changed the line to better reflect the cited source. --146.6.203.87 (talk) 23:47, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Confusing line

I couldn't quite figure out exactly what this line at the end of the intro section was supposed to mean.

"Tabula Rasa closed on February 28, 2009, with servers slated to become free to play on January 10, 2009, but were set as three weeks earlier by the developers."

Perhaps my reading comprehension is a bit off, but never-the-less the line is worded a bit screwy. As the line reads, the game was closed at the end of February, and then set to be free to play 10 days later? And the part, "but were set as three weeks earlier..." really threw me. Best I can tell is that the servers were supposed to be free Jan 10th, but were made free 3 weeks before that, then shut down on Feb 28th. Anyway, someone who knows more about the game and what happened should probably clear that up.98.215.128.112 (talk) 17:23, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

This still has not been corrected. The anon user above apparently misapprehended the month names (it CLOSED February 28, but was announced to go free-to-play FORTY-NINE DAYS EARLIER, not "10 days later"). The final clause is ungrammatical and unclear; we can guess what the contributor meant, but we should not be required to do so. Since it has been nearly two years without a correction, I am deleting the final clause. If someone knows what it was "supposed to say" and can write it correctly, feel free to replace it. 12.233.146.130 (talk) 20:06, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
