[edit]Taleshi (or Talishi) is the language of an old ethnic group of Iran, predominantly in the northern part of Iran. Taleshi is also spoken in the southern part of the Republican of Azerbaijan. Azarbaijan was separated from Iran after a political deal between Iran and Russia so called the Treaty of Turkamanchai on 21 February 1828. In the north of Iran there are 8 towns that Taleshi is the common language of people. These towns are Masal, Shanderman, Rezvanshar, Talesh, Astara, Fouman, Shaft and Masoleh. Two cities of Masal (ماسال) and Shanderman (شاندرمن) are, however, the only towns where their people speak purely Taleshi. In other 6 cities languages like Gilaki and Turki-Azari are also spoken as the second langauge. In Azerbaijan, Taleshi is spoken mostly in the rural areas.
The available written pieces and books about history and culture of Taleshian people are infrequent. There have, however, been a considerable attention and studies on the culture, history, and literature of this ethnic group over the last three decades.
