I would suggest that the Tampico bridge was not yet built in 1988. I crossed the Panuco River with my motorcycle on the ferry in 1989, and there was no bridge at that time. One can not overstress the importance of this bridge as route 180 is the main north-south road along the east coast of Mexico. Prior to completion of the bridge, cars and trucks were lined up in both directions for many miles waiting to cross the river on the ferry. The wait to cross took days, not hours. Now there is no wait, just a small toll.
