Paragraph removed from Remarks section[edit]

I removed the following paragraph from the Remarks section:

Though some feel the film has dated and is unintentionally funny, others feel that the loss of freedoms depicted in the film have come to pass although communism has ended. What remains is a well directed film showing attitudes of the time professionally performed by then well known actors.

This paragraph lacks citations and consists of pure opinions. People undoubtedly have a range of "feelings" about the film. Some may indeed find it "unintentionally funny" (although there is no citation indicating who feels this way), while others may find it disturbing or have other reactions to it. In any case, there's no need to guide the reader of this article about what feelings the film should evoke.

As for the notion that "the loss of freedoms depicted in the film have come to pass although communism has ended," it's not clear that anyone actually feels this way, and someone would have to be fairly stupid to actually believe this. The film depicts a scenario in which people's children are forcibly taken away from them to work on collective farms; religion has been abolished; and dissent is punished by trial without benefit of jury, followed by a death sentence. Does anyone who has a functioning brain seriously believe that these things are actually happening at present?

Finally, the claim that the film is "well directed" is POV, and the claim that it shows "attitudes of the time" implies that the attitudes reflected in the film were universally held, when in fact they were not.

Not really, 'Attitudes of the time' means attitudes that could be found then that are less likely now. It does not have to imply that they were 'universally held'.

All the same, who could think that the Nightmare has come to pass?? I wonder about some people. 71.198.177.48 (talk) 20:24, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
