Metaphor Line

[edit]

The metaphor is apparently mixed, mainly referring to a motor race "Fuel burning fast on an empty tank", but featuring the repeated line "He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse".

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't horse another way of reffering to his race car? 168.28.136.14 07:50, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Never heard that expression used in all my years of following motor racing. --MartinUK 19:13, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not saying its common, but it definately seems within CAKE's realm of description and metaphors. I don't really think he suddenly means that the guy is riding on a horse instead of in a car - but then, I think the whole bit is a metaphor for something else entirely. 67.34.40.25 11:50, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Umm...I was allways under the assumption that both the tempo and the choice of words made this song a metaphor for sex, possibly even rape.

"But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns And thinking of someone for whom he still burns

He's going the distance He's going for speed She's all alone All alone in her time of need Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse

...

Bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse, assail him, impale him, with monster truck force."

Then again, maybe I'm just dirty

I second the first guy. 75.24.104.100 03:00, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I always thought it was about sex. "She's all alone, all alone in her time of need." Maybe it's my feminine point of view, but it sounds like a boy having sex and thinking only about his needs. 216.27.13.231 (talk) 13:59, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong John McCrea

[edit]

The note about "The Distance" not being written by John McCrea linked to John McCrea rather than the lead singer of CAKE, John McCrea (singer). I fixed it. Mitch 19:08, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I figured it out and it took 5 minutes _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

First of all i listened 2 this sog carefully it basically the meataphore meen's. He's working for what he loves. Example :The sun has come dow ad the moon has come up, and long ago somebody left with the cup. But he's still driving and striving and hugging the turns and thinking of someoe for he still burns." Again it meens that he's striving and working for his love one and/or what he loves. But the song is BEAST so I highly recomend it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.39.141.110 (talk) 03:15, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
