Actually, the songs were written before the book was published, per the author himself. If you check the copyright date of the songs inside the book _The Gypsy_, that date is also 1992.

I have checked; we have all the editions here, and Tor Books published the first two, and their imprint Orb Books published the trade edition as a reprint. Atlantic Books published a book, called _Gypsy_, about a stripper named Gypsy Rose, who is not related to this book, _The Gypsy_.

The French publisher name looks like it has transposed letters, but I do not have an edition of _The Gypsy_ in French to refer to.

The songs might have well been written long before the book, I don't know about that. But the first hardcover edition of the book came out in 1992 and the CD came out in 1995. Robin Hobb says here that As we were writing the book, Steve just sort of tossed the lyrics in along the way. When the album came out, it was a complete surprise to me. I hadn't even known they were working on it. --Nerwende (talk) 14:33, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
