Masque of the Red Death

[edit]

I removed the following statement from the article which I believe to be original research.

If you look closely, you will see that the episode is a transposition of Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death."

Having not seen this episode, I am unable to actually "look closely" but any similarities to The Masque of the Red Death are probably more coincidental than anything. Here the stroke of midnight sees only one character die (instead of all). Where "The Masque" has indiscriminate death from a plague, "The Masks" has very specific, nonlethal judgment. Even the apparent similarities of the names represents a misreading - while the revelers in Poe's tale wore nondescript masks, "The Masque" refers to the gathering itself, and the masks do not play an important role in the story.

I'm not saying it's not debatable, just that at this time there's insufficient evidence to render such a judgment. --BDD 00:28, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
