Big tent
[edit]I would question whether TOP is a big tent party. This implies seeking to get the support of as many people as possible. However TOP does not do this - it is instead a collection of fringe interests, ranging from essentially Social Credit, Socialist, to environmental extremism.203.80.61.102 (talk) 02:11, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
I tried to edit the 'big tent' comment out but it was reverted without any comment. This is sort of thing that drives people away from Wikipedia. There is absolutely nothing in the reference attached describing TOP, implicitly or explicitly, as a big tent party. It does say that TOP would work with any other party, but that is not the same as a 'big tent' party that fosters many different points of view within it. I am deleting it again. 130.225.0.251 (talk) 15:27, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
- Should it need a reference though? The Big tent page on Wikipedia describes the label to mean; "...a political party that seeks to attract voters from different points of view and ideologies. This is in contrast to other parties that defend a determined ideology and seek voters who adhere to that ideology and convince people towards it." That seems like a pretty good summation of TOP's policies in 2017. Kiwichris (talk) 23:55, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
TOP does not generally care where in the political spectrum an idea comes from, assessing it instead on its merits.
It's a small, big tent party with regard to policy. Parsons A (talk) 22:23, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Centrism?
[edit]Reading TOP policy, it truly does not look like they are anymore a centrist party, but a centre-left one. Someone prior mentioned 'big tent' which would also be a good descriptor, however focusing on the centre left. UBI for example is not a centrist policy. This clearly differs from when they were founded, however parties do evolve. Thoughts? WBPchur 💬●✒️●💛 01:00, 25 July 2020 (UTC).
TOP is a centrist party. Your assertion that UBI is 'not centrist' is incorrect. It depends entirely upon your frame of reference as to how you interpret the political positioning of a UBI.
'Big tent' is apt. Parsons A (talk) 22:21, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Social issues
[edit]What's TOP's stance on moral issues like abortion and euthanasia and the preferred prostitution model or gun rights? In the Topic of abortion I suspect they haven't got clarified stance and I'm not able to find appropriate information on matters like euthaniasa and prostitition and gun rights — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.182.197.253 (talk) 17:34, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Use Google, use those in a keyword search, and use "site:top.org.nz" in your search. You should find content on these topics. Parsons A (talk) 22:24, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Bias?
[edit]This is a very bad Wikipedia page. It breaks a lot of the rules on this site. It seems like it was written by someone who interns for the party. I can't be bothered to fix this. But somebody should. Graveyjones5 (talk) 10:42, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
